Kovalam Beach House by Halcyon Traveltech — Hotel in Kerala

I had the privilege to spend 4 days in this beautiful place – it could not have been better!

What did I particularly like?

The beautiful setting, with views over the ocean (it really is in front, which is not the case of many properties in Kovalam) and palm trees; I could hear the waves from my bed, as well as all the birds singing (I made many recordings)

The location, less than 30mn from Trivandrum airport; there are also many restaurants nearby (I recommend “the Lobster Pot” literally next door) and the other facilities nearby (e.g. currency exchange less than 15mn away)

The advance communication with Mr Sachin (so reassuring when travelling) and the professionalism of Mr Dibhyajith (who made everything so easy, starting in with check-in – I could pay by card, which is not always the case in India)

My bedroom (201) with a very big bathroom, powerful air conditioning (which I only turned on for 5mn every time the room was getting a bit too hot), very good wifi signal and breathtaking views.

The room, the bathroom, and the common areas were spacious and mostly clean. The location is scenic and cozy. The view from the property is stunning, and there are a couple of good restaurants very closeby. But the main problem with this property is its accessibility. There is no proper road leading to it, and the management didn't bother to communicate such a crucial detail. On the day of our check-in, the caretaker asked us to park our car near the mosque closeby. But we were not expecting the 300 m walk and climb (hill) in the blazing afternoon that followed. I don't know how they expect their guests, especially elderly ones, to go through this surprise adventure just to reach their place. It was an even more stressful experience when we tried to bring our car up the next day for checkout through the very horrible road that ends some meters away from...

The access is a little awkward (walking access only for last few hundred metre) as mentioned in previous reviews, but this was not a problem for us. The caretaker Rahul was lovely and helpful, proactive. You cannot drive all the way to the Beach House so he gave the rickshaw driver instructions where to park and he met us there, helped to carry our bags up to the house. Thank you! Also he was happy to assist with e.g. scooty rental. Room was fine, good size, with A/C and fan. At upper end Grove Beach, more peaceful than the main Kovalam area. 3x good restaurants very nearby.

Only issues: There were mosquitoes in the room overnight despite insect screens on the window, this disrupted our sleep. The kitchen was not so clean. Fine for making tea/coffee but I would probably not make a...
