Punerjeni is everything that the previous reviewers have said and more. ||The holiday home is a separate dwelling facing the backwaters. It is simply decorated, but spotlessly clean and has everything you'd need. You can relax on the verandah to watch the world go by on the waters or take a boat ride or go for a walk in the village through the narrow alleys between houses and gardens...||||This business is clearly a labour of love and a matter of pride for the whole family. They instinctively know what you like. And it is the little things that they do, that sets them apart...||For example, Sandhya, the hostess is always there, smiling and helpful, but discretely out of your way. She is a great cook. She prepared delicious curry from banana flowers which were home grown, and from clams which the children had handpicked from the back waters. Akash (their elder son) brought us tea and sat down and talked to us about his school and showed us his medals. Akarsha (their younger son) showed us his fishing photos and gave us tips on the best route for our evening walk. Sinu (Sandhya's husband) showed us what the tamarind (kochinel) fruit looks like before it's market packed and rushed in to take us to show a man who was toddy tapping. ||In the short span of a day, we enjoyed a walk in the village, learnt about their daily life, how they celebrate festivals, about rice growing, their schooling and ambitions... ||We could have easily spent 2-3 days in their beautiful village enjoying their genuine hospitality. May be some other...
Read moreWe stayed here for 4 days. Sandya and her family, along with their two kids are a very hospitable and caring host. This was our first home stay experience which was planned at the last moment of the trip planning. We were really impressed with it. Their property is new, maintained well, well furnished, neat and clean. It is right on the banks of river Pamba where numerous house boats ply. Sitting at the portico itself is a value for money. We were served various vegetarian Kerala delicacies. We were doubtful of our son's diet before the trip, as he is so used to roti sabzi, which we thought was hard to get in Kerala. But he enjoyed his food every time - Appam, Puttu, Idiyappam, Kadala Curry, Pineapple pachadi, payasam etc. We had a lot of memorable time with their two kids Akaash and Akarsh. The younger one about 6 yrs old, was right mate for our son, helping him catch his first fish, teaching him different fishing techniques and serving him the caught fish for his lunch. They were very helpful in giving proper guidance in sight seeing, arranging various travel needs - boats, taxis and auto-rickshaws. Even those drivers were very nice and friendly and not demanding. We noticed the hammock at the backyard only few hours before our check out, but we had fun time there too. It was overall a value for money place. Currently, the host provides hot water for bathing whenever requested. It would be great to have a geyser or water heater fixed in the rooms which will...
Read moreWe stayed with Sinu & Sandhya and their two sons for two nights. We wish we could have stayed longer. The room was very spacious, well maintained and clean. The room had a little veranda which was really nice to sit on in the evenings and enjoy the beautiful views of the river.||It was a great experience to stay with the family. They were all so friendly and service minded. The food was so delicious; among the best we had during our trip. Sandhya is a fantastic cook and host. Their son, Agash, took us on a short walk to a nearby temple and told us a lot about the environment and culture. Great experience! ||I had been in Alleppey two times before and stayed on the famous houseboats. To be honest the experience at Punerjeni was soooo much better! ||Tip: book a tour on a small boat and float through the backwaters (also where houseboats can’t come). Even though it was peak season we hardly encountered houseboats and...
