"Atithi Devo Bhava" in Sanskrit means equating guests to God.||The moment we stepped in; we could not see anyone in the big hall. We came to know that Puthiya kovilakam family members (300+) were celebrating their yearly get together in another building. ||We saw Sreevidya rushing towards my son and carrying our luggage to the room. That was a great gesture and this continued till the day we departed. Thank you!||Home stay with a temple and a river nearby. ||( 100 meters and 30 steps to reach the river). Steps are slippery and please pay attention. The rocks are slippery and uneven in some places. However, Ravi Varma was kind enough to suggest a place where the place is flat with small pebbles and the depth is less than 2 feet. One can easily spend couple of hours in the river. Enjoy the calm and lovely atmosphere around the river. Visit the river at different times of the day and its beautiful every time! Sometimes, there were none in the river and you could spot cow, birds, monkeys (many of them) and plenty of small fishes. We fed the fishes with Rice flakes and fresh mango and they enjoyed it. The super markets are close by and you can buy all essential things. ||350+ year old traditionally built huge house by Nilambur Royal family.||Surrounded with huge trees on all sides and you will be greeted with mild jasmine fragrance as well. Delicious Kerala traditional food served as breakfast, lunch and dinner in plantain leaf. ||We stayed in the first floor. The rooms are simple. Do note that, the ceiling height is very short and one has to pay attention especially while raising hands around the fan. Bathrooms were clean and hygienic.||Weather was hot during the day and pleasant during early morning hours. We requested for another table fan and this was immediately provided by the host. ||Mild drizzling for few days. Watching the rain with the hot tea and snacks is the best thing to do. You have quite a few places in the ground floor where you can stretch your legs and enjoy the nature!||Vodafone Idea 4G works very well in the first floor and could download large files (2GB) quickly as well. We even managed to watch the IPL cricket match as well.||We could gather a lot of information about the temple, palace history and also about the surrounding temples. Mr Ravi Varma accompanied us and explained the surrounding temples. Enjoy going around in Auto Taxi. Its neither Auto nor Taxi! Ignore the noise from the rear 😊||Unforgettable moments and I take this opportunity to thank again Mr C K Ravi Varma, Madhu, Sreevidya and...

The forest walk, visit to the river, sunset point and temple are refreshing and not to be missed. The highlight of the whole stay for us was the lovely Kerala traditional food cooked and served with a lot of love and warmth by the family. They were very accommodating of the diet requirements of my elderly father. ||||Couple of areas that need attention to make the experience even more seamless are - ||1. Power back up for all guest rooms since there were frequent power interruptions when we stayed||2. Geysers for hot water were not working sometimes. I would like to mention that the hosts provided hot water in buckets when requested. ||||All in all, we had a memorable stay at the Kovilakam.
