RiverLand's - A Family Retreat — Hotel in Kerala

We had an amazing time at this resort. It's hard to spot something, or anything that could be considered as a con. The host family, took good care of our requests. We had requested for the chicken to be marinated by them and barbecued by us. They helped us set everything up and we had an amazing time grilling the chicken. Apart from that, we had ordered Pork fry (was beautiful), Beef dry fry (as good as the best bdf I've had elsewhere) , duck roast (was very soothing and the meat was cooked well . Maybe it was like the nadan duck mappas, is what I like feel), veg kurma, chapathi and porota. We only had the dinner here. Looking back at the past, we wish that maybe we should have had lunch too. I am sure, all the other menu items that we hadn't tried, would have landed us some happy tummies too. So the food part is sorted here. Might wish to inform them, a day in advance, so that they could keep the best meat and ingredients ready. The pool is nice and more deep towards the other end. Probably deeper than most other pools. The deepest it can get is 5.7 feet. On the top floor, you can play badminton and table tennis.

They have 4 rooms. The one in the middle, facing the river being the biggest. 3 of the rooms are river facing. They can host at least 10 and have some 4 extra mattresses that can accommodate 4 more, if needed. The rooms are cute and well maintained. Good job with the neatness and cleanliness.

The view: It's so soothing, from the rooms and also while walking near the river shore. Pure bliss!! Come here for the best river view and the experience.

Mr. Jose would reach out to you and suggest you to go take a boat ride or go kayaking. Even if you are scared to go kayaking, do not miss out on the boat ride. He'd take you to the place that can be viewed from across the river, opposite to the property. A secluded island that's inhibited by wild elephants. No, you won't be on the Island, but nearby the island and beside a stream where we could sit down and bathe without needing to swim. So worry not, about having to play with wild elephants. It's a very nice place (beside the calm water stream) and while we were there, we felt relaxed and calm. Maybe I would want to come here again and just do that(sit immersed in water), for a really long time. We absolutely loved every aspect of this property & the hosts went over and above to make us feel at home. I can imagine coming back over and over again year after year as our daughter grows. We brought together three generations with very different interests (A baby, young kids to grandparents) to stay for 3 nights and everything worked out brilliantly.

There’s a sparkling pool for the kids & Jose uncle inflated our floaties for us, saving parents’ lungs. Picturesque view of Periyar river from 3 of the 4 rooms for elders to enjoy their coffee. Kayaking right from the house and exploring on an nearby uninhabited island for those looking for adventure. One day we drove to nearby waterfalls (featured in Bahubali), another day we checked out Adi Shankaracharya’s birthplace in Kalady & the Dhanwanthari temple to the south. The hosts organized home style meals for us and even satisfied my pure vegetarian & very particular father-in-law with super tasty traditional breakfasts (puttu, idli, sambar, aappam, idiyappam) and made sure we had curd rice as an option for dinner every night.

The house is gorgeous, modern and extremely clean. We have a one year old who’s just learning to walk and I felt happy letting her roam with her cousins, splash in the pool and drink the water provided.
