It's a good hotel. Perhaps the only good one close to the Sambalpur Junction Railway Station and Maa Samaleswari Temple. The hotel is a mere 2 minutes walk from the station. After you exit go towards your left and you'll be able to spot it. There's Ambika Plywood on the front side, just towards it's left side there's the hotel. Obviously my experience and I hope it stays only as my experience and no one else faces this problem of checking-in. I can't say whether it's a one-off or it happens regularly but only bad impression is too small a sample size to judge anything. So I'm being a bit kind here because it was pouring outside when we arrived. Partially drenched and hungry, we were expecting a smooth let-in but some cleaning, repairing stuff was going on. So we had to wait for more than 40 minutes despite arriving 1 and half-hour later than the scheduled check-in time(12pm). So that was frustrating. But upon entering in one of their rooms, it felt nice. Room was clean. Washroom was tidy. We were lucky to have a room having an outside view. Some trees, vehicles plying on the road, some shops on the opposite side, buildings could be seen. Our room had a working desk and a moving chair plus another comfortable chair, a small refrigerator, cupboard with drawers, a big mirror. Bed was too cozy to my liking 😊. I'm not used to a bed that soft so took me a bit of time to get used to. This is not a complaint. Nothing wrong about that 😊, this is how beds are usually in 3,4,5 star hotels. Washroom had good quality fittings but a mug, bucket would have been ideal but it was more than manageable. Shampoo, hair-conditioner, body lotion, handwash was available and so was a brush, toothpaste with 2 towels. TV had pretty much all the channels but all were Standard-Definition(SD) channels and I didn't find any HD channels. But it was fine. We didn't need the AC and I assumed it to be in good working condition. Fan worked well for us. Coffee, tea kits were available. There was a Havells water-heater to make coffee, tea. Glasses, cups with 2 complimentary water bottles were also given. The staff were cordial and must credit them for keeping our luggage safe. We checked-out early to explore the city and didn't want to carry all the heavy stuff so I asked them and they obliged. Upon returning, again we came drenched but they were kind enough to allow us to access one of their washrooms to change our clothes. They also allowed us to use their lobby area. We had an accommodation elsewhere and we had nowhere coz it was raining outside, so they allowed us to sit in their waiting area. But if possible try to grab some some coupons to have a discount. I got it under 3000 so not bad. Anything around 2200-2300 would have been great but that's not how it works all the time. Very good stay overall. I came here having read good reviews before and it pretty much lived upto my expectations. Also I didn't find any other good hotels in the vicinity ;neither online nor first-hand. So had to settle for this. As usual, hotels like these have food rates beyond our likeable scale so we skipped it and brought something from outside. Barely manageable but less cost, filled our stomach. There's a food outlet serving South-Indian breakfast. It was tasty. 'Bara' was crispy, soft and so was its chutney, idlis. Enough...
Read moreDisappointing Experience - a true nightmare I recently stayed at this so-called property during an official trip to sambalpur jharsuguda, expecting a comfortable and hassle-free experience. However, what I encountered was nothing short of appalling, and I feel compelled to share my experience to warn others. Service and Staff: The staff at this hotel were incredibly rude and unresponsive. From the moment I checked in, I felt like I was being treated as an inconvenience rather than a guest. The receptionist was cold and dismissive, and the rest of the staff seemed uninterested in providing any semblance of decent service. The level of unprofessionalism was shocking, especially for a hotel that claims to be a premium establishment. Room Quality: The room itself was a disappointment. It was smaller than expected, certainly not up to the standard you'd expect from a property with this rating. To make matters worse, the fridge in the room wasn’t working, adding to the discomfort of my stay. The mini-bar in the room contained snacks along with a rate card, but I didn’t touch any of it since I had already had dinner and checked in late. The Mini-Bar Incident: The real issue arose during check-out. Despite not consuming anything from the mini-bar, I was accused of eating few cookies from the box of cookies. The box was open, but I hadn’t touched it, as I was simply too tired and had no need for snacks. When I politely informed them that I hadn’t eaten the cookies, they refused to believe me and insisted that I pay for it. What’s worse, they stopped my car as I was leaving and forced me to come back to the reception, delaying my departure and making me late for an important meeting. The lady at the reception was particularly rude, accusing me of lying and claiming that it was impossible for them to have made a mistake. It’s shocking that a hotel with such high room tariffs would go to such lengths to extort 200 INR for a cookie, rather than listen to their guest. It’s not about the money; it’s about principle and being treated with respect. Cleanliness and Hygiene: If the hotel had done their job properly and checked the room before my check-in, they would have noticed the open, possibly unhygienic, cookie packet. This level of negligence is unacceptable and raises concerns about the overall cleanliness and hygiene standards of the property. This experience was a complete nightmare. The staff here don’t know how to treat guests, and the level of service was pathetic. For a property that charges such high tariffs, their attitude towards customers is disgraceful. I will never stay here again, and I strongly advise others to steer clear of this hotel. It’s not worth the money, and you might end up being accused of something you didn’t do, just to cover up their own mistakes. Stay away if you value your peace of mind and expect to be treated with...
Read moreAt 5:10 a.m. on October 9, when all the hotel boarders were fast asleep, the corridor’s hazard alarm suddenly honked kept ringing for several minutes. Many of us rushed outside, but there was no hotel staff to be seen anywhere. When I went down the stairs to the reception, I found two employees there — calm and indifferent. They informed me that the alarm had switched on because the water tank had overflowed while being filled. Their expressionless and unconcerned attitude left me both surprised and annoyed. Had this incident not occurred, I would have given the hotel a five-star rating. But because of the fright and the rude awakening at that hour, I couldn’t bring myself to do so. The hotel itself is very good. The room was clean and well-equipped with all necessary amenities. Both the room and the washroom were quite spacious. We had access to hot water 24 hours a day. However, the body wash bottle was empty, and only one dental kit was provided for two people. I called room service once, but no one answered. The restaurant food was tasty and of good quality, though slightly overpriced. In contrast, we liked the food and pricing at the nearby bakery much more — along with its pleasant ambiance. The daytime reception staff were very nice and always ready to help with a smile. The travel agency contact they provided for car rental was excellent. All in all, apart from the hazard alarm incident, our overall experience...
