After a 12 hour pleasant daytime journey on Indian Railways, I walked to this lodge from the incredibly busy and huge NJP railway station, taking about five minutes.||||Check in was slow.||||The three storey lodge has a recently installed antique lift that worked well. My room 2A initially suffered from rather unattractive music at a nearby wedding but this ceased by 2045 hours.||||The premier deluxe room had a King bed but there was only a doona not a top sheet. The pillows were rubber but despite this I slept well.||||The room had two armchairs and a table plus good parquetry, interesting curtains that blocked out light, a quiet and effective split system aircon unit and a smallish Hightron television that offered only Indian cable channels.||||No drinking water was provided. Nor was there a room safe, but a soap bar accompanied the sole white towel.||||There was an ante room with a table that doubled as a luggage shelf.||||Lighting was excellent and the room was nicely decorated with glass enclosed local photos, though strangely not of the world famous Darjeeling narrow gauge steam train and railway.||||The shower controls were difficult to balance with cold water one minute and scalding hot the next, a problem in other Indian hotels. The bathroom was generously sized and it was easy to shave. There was no hairdryer.||||The rudimentary plastic chairs and tables restaurant was booked out for a young trekkers group but I had room service of chicken fried rice that was fine.||||WiFi worked very well on the ground floor but was sporadic on the second despite a different login. There was a phone in the room.||||In common with other Indian hotels, a large jail cell-like key, lock and bolt was the entry method to the room. Complex!||||One staff member had flawless English. The others had little.||||I do not understand the negative reviews as this place 570km from Calcutta by rail...
Read moreHi travellers,
I am requesting you to not to book this hotel for your stay.
I booked the stay at 9pm on 20th and I advised them to wake up at 2am.
This is how it happened

I went back to my room to check if they have called.
Honestly, there was no call made
I visited the reception, told them there are no calles made.
The contridict the statement stating they called on intercom.
There is no intercom in single room.
I had an argument asking the person told me they tried to call me on intercome. The question I asked how many years he is working here, his response was 5 years, I asked him then you should know there is no intercome available in single room.
He dint had an answer.

Read moreThis was a very very poor experience, and sadly it was as recently as early this month. Firstly, me and my parents were compelled to spend the night here as it is located very close to the New Jalpaiguri station, and like most people who stay here, we too had heavy luggage and had to board the train early in the morning. Coming to the experience, it was extremely overpriced. EXTREMELY. On initially along the price they said Rs. 3500, for a double bed room which on bargaining, immediately came down to Rs. 2500. The room was extremely dirty. The water coming out of the faucet had a strong and disgusting odour. Washing our hands and face in that water took an effort. The surrounding areas was filled with leaching men. NOT safe or comfortable for women. They charged for the water bottles which is usually complimentary in the other hotels we stayed at for that price or less. The man who simply carried our luggage one floor asked and then complained about the tips he received. The restaurant food was not nice either, except the chicken dish, which was okay. Overall a very very bad experience. Hospitality was zero. Noisy environment, staffs were unhelpful. Affordability was a myth. Cleanliness was an unknown concept there. I was personally delighted to get away from that place first thing in...
