It was Sikkim and Upper West Bengal (Gorkhaland) this year for summer vacation. We decided to start the trip with birding at Lat Panchar, which is famed for the Rufous-necked Hornbill besides many other bird species. Naturally, Lat Pachar would have been most suitable place to stay, but since it has limited accommodation options for a family (with kids), we were suggested Bikram Rai’s Bisesh Homestay (also known as Humro Home, Ghalaytar). And we are happy that we made this choice! ||||Bisesh Homestay is situated at Sittong, which is some half hrs away from Lat Panchar. It is built as an extension of Bikram’s own house, and is divided in two units. First unit consists of relatively bigger rooms and is constructed as your enter it from the village road. Second unit is on higher level, consists of 4-5 rooms, which are built little farther from the first unit. All rooms are well maintained, has good views of Kanchenjunga (which we couldn’t see due to cloudy weather) and give nice feel of Gorkha village life. Talk to Bikram and he will suggest the most appropriate room for your needs or family size.||||Room, aptly named Kanchenjunga for the views it offers, that Bikram suggested was just perfect for us. We are a family of four with 2 young kids and this room has 2 double beds - one King and one queen sized. The room is fairly large with attached bathroom fitted with geyser. There’s a TV too, which we never turned on thanks to all the fantastic scenery and village life around. Electricity in such remote places could be erratic, but all rooms have couple of inverter points, and hot water is provided in buckets should power takes longer to restore. ||||However, the best part of this homestay for us was the homely food they prepare, and a very pleasant staff/family members who serve it. Food is served in a small dining room close-by, and consists of local rice, rotis, daal, rai (local green leafy vegetable - used fresh as well as dried) subzee, dalle chilly pickles, etc. Food was basic, but very tasty. Cutlery they use was made up of bell metal and just added to that authentic flavour. Bikram, his wife and son always used to be around should we need anything else. ||||If you are a birder then you have plenty of opportunities besides having Lat Panchar close-by. It must be noted that bird guides at Lat Panchar are affiliated to home stays there, so make sure you have confirmed a guide in advance if you are staying elsewhere like here in Sittong. For non-birders too, there’s a lake (although dried in summer months) nearby and so is the point named Ahal Dara, which is popular to witness sunrise and sunset. If you are expert in the art of just relaxing, going with snail’s pace, then you will hardly miss much staying at this place! :-) Do note that it gets pretty cold here. Rooms are nice & warm, has thick blankets, but carry good woollen wear when you are outside. ||||Overall, I am very happy to have chosen Bikram’s Bisesh Homestay and will highly recommend it to people visiting this area or Lat Panchar. Thanks to Bikram, his family and staff for making our two day’s visit a...

They have facilities like bonfire, barbecue. You can take Tea/Coffee (Black or white) n number of times. YES, n number of times!!! For food enthusiasts, this hotel boasts a diverse range of dining options as buffet.
The garden is too good. Lots of flowers are there. And also there is a reading room. I really love this homestay.

Read moreThe best Homestay ever visited - I recently had the pleasure of staying at Bisesh Homestay in Sittong for a relaxing vacation, and I must say that I was blown away by the incredible hospitality and warm, friendly nature of the hosts. The homestay was located in a picturesque mountain village, surrounded by lush greenery and breathtaking views of the valley.
From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warmth and kindness by the hosts. They showed me around the property, which was beautifully maintained and had a cozy, rustic charm. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, with all the amenities one could need for a comfortable stay, including clean bedding, towels, hot water and toiletries
The hosts went out of their way to make me feel at home, offering delicious homemade meals made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients. They also arranged bonfires and musical performances in the evening in which all the guests participated.
What really set this homestay apart, however, was the genuine warmth and hospitality of the hosts. They took the time to get to know me, asking about my interests and sharing stories of their own lives and experiences. They were always available to answer questions or offer advice, but never intrusive or overbearing.
Overall, I cannot recommend this homestay highly enough. It was the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, and the hosts truly went above and beyond to make my stay a memorable one.
