Mixed Experience at Sunrise Inn, Kalimpong – A Drastic Decline in Hospitality Standards In January 2025, I visited Kalimpong with my family and stayed at Sunrise Inn Homestay. At that time, our experience was truly wonderful — the hospitality, cleanliness, and food quality were excellent. We were so pleased that we gave the property a 5-star rating on their website. However, I feel compelled to share a very different and disappointing experience during my parents’ recent stay from 19th May to 22nd May 2025 at the same homestay. Lack of Host/Management Presence: During this time, there was a reported family emergency for the host, Mr. Prakash Ji. While we understand emergencies can happen, unfortunately, the entire property was left unmanaged with no staff or caretaker present to attend to the guests. No Basic Services: My parents were the only guests at the property and faced several inconveniences. There was no one to attend to them, serve meals, or take care of any basic needs. Unhygienic Food & Health Issue: Due to the absence of supervision, the food served was unhygienic and stale. As a result, my mother suffered from acute gastroenteritis (food poisoning) shortly after returning home. We had to consult a doctor on 24th May 2025, and I am attaching the medical prescription as proof of the seriousness of the issue. This experience was extremely distressing for our family, especially considering the trust we had built from our earlier stay. A homestay must ensure minimum guest care and hygiene standards, even during a crisis. Leaving guests unattended and serving unsafe food is unacceptable under any circumstances. Disappointing Stay at Sunrise Inn Homestay, Kalimpong

I recently stayed at Sunrise Inn Homestay in Kalimpong with my family, and our experience was disappointing. Initially, the host was friendly and welcoming, but his behavior changed drastically after we arrived.

The room had maintenance issues, such as a non-functional toilet flush, which the host blamed us for. We had to cancel two days of our stay due to terrible road conditions, and although the host initially agreed to adjust the booking amount, he later demanded payment for the cancelled days.

The homestay lacked room service, and the "free breakfast" advertised on Google was misleading. The breakfast options shown in the photos were not provided to us. Furthermore, the lunch and dinner menu was exorbitantly priced compared to other hotels in the area, making it an unaffordable option for us.

Additionally, we were overcharged for scooty rental. Initially, we were quoted ₹1000 without petrol, but after we found a better deal elsewhere, the host suddenly reduced the price to ₹600 without petrol. This raises suspicions that the initial price was inflated and only reduced because we had another option.

Overall, our stay at Sunrise Inn Homestay was marred by the host's inconsistent behavior, maintenance issues, and deceptive advertising, overpriced food options, and questionable pricing practices. We would not recommend this...

We had initially booked the homestay for four days, but due to bad weather conditions, we couldn’t arrive on the first day. We informed the owner and requested to modify our booking to three days, asking if they could cancel the first day. "aap aiyen na phir dekhte hay" were his exact words. The owner’s behavior was unprofessional. Although we had informed him about our delayed arrival due to bad weather, he still claimed not to have booked the first day. The adjacent room was vacant, so it was clear he was lying.

The toilet was out of order, and the flush wasn’t working. Despite this issue persisting since our arrival, the owner blamed us, suggesting we had caused the problem. His response was unfounded and unhelpful.

Initially friendly, his attitude changed after check-in, and he showed little care.It’s frustrating when someone’s behavior doesn’t match their initial friendliness.
