I stayed at OkaOki homestay for 2 weeks and I loved it.
The room was clean and very comfortable. The kitchen was stocked with all the essentials. There was a minifridge in the apartment. Propane and drinking water were provided. The pool was well maintained, and I really enjoyed the variety of the outdoor seating options, both private and shared. The bed was comfortable and fitted with a mosquito net. The shower was indoors, clean, and the water got hot. I had no phone service at all, but the WiFi was quite reliable. All of the staff were incredibly welcoming, kind, and helpful. I rented a scooter from the owner's family, and they simply swapped it out when I got a flat tire. I wanted to extend my stay but OkaOki was fully booked - so the owners helped arrange an excellent deal for me at another wonderful accommodation nearby, and they helped me transport my luggage.
I found the location of OkaOki to be excellent. It was a bit out of the way from the main streets, so I would recommend this place to someone comfortable riding a scooter, or perhaps a bicycle. Luckily, the streets in Amed are generally well maintained and there isn't much traffic. It's about a 5-10 minute drive to beautiful beaches, excellent restaurants and cafes, and groceries. If you do want to walk, the street from OkaOki into town is very safe and absolutely gorgeous. Note that OkaOki and all the essentials are approximately at sea level, but there are many appealing places to visit nearby that are up steep hills. If you are comfortable with longer drives on a scooter, you can easily ride from OkaOki into the mountains in Bunutan, or to any of the neighboring beach towns.
I was troubled by a few power outages at the beginning of my stay, but as soon as I mentioned it, it turned out to be an easy fix - so if you run into that issue, just text management and it will be quickly resolved! There are some new buildings being built nearby as of Fall 2024, but I didn't notice any noise or disturbance of any kind at all.
Thank you so much, Ayu, Komang, and Mario! It was a...
Read moreMixed feelings about this place. First of all the pro's:
The location is great. You're away from the busy street a bit into nature with some hills surrounding the quiet area. A bike is definitely recommended since walking is quite far to the beaches and town and there's no grabs or other online taxi's. You get your own water, and small kitchen with one gas pit, kitchen utensils and a mini fridge inside. The bed is quite comfy and you have a good mosquito net (which comes in handy bc there are a ton of mosquitos). There's is a pool you can us, there's a nice outside private area and shared area you can chill.
The cons:
The Bungalows have seen their best days and some of it is not well maintained. The shower head was so full of dirt that we had to pick it open to let the water out. Only 3 were open... The bathroom door either jammed really hard or doesn't shut at all and it smelled like something died in one of the drains (either the sink or toilet). One day because of some wind and being damp one of the roof panels came down on us while we were outside.
Communication with the owners is really rusty. Either through WhatsApp or booking it was hard to get in touch so you had to be lucky to see them if you needed something. Like getting a new water bottle or when we arrived the gas tank was empty. One of the staff/owners came by to collect the money, didn't have change and said he'd come back but didn't so had to remind him. When the roof panel came down he came, he saw and disappeared which felt a bit rude.
Decent place but lacking support overall.
But a big shout out to Ayu who was super lovely. She was very welcoming and is probably the backbone of...
Read moreI have been staying in Amed for almost 10 days. So far, I had no problems with any accommodations in Amed but this one. Of course, I did filter for pet friendly accommodations that's how we found this place. When we arrived there, there was no one there. And suddenly they said we are not allowed to stay because we have a dog. We asked them : so why did you put on booking.com that your accommodation is a pet friendly place? Ignorantly, they just said no, no pets allowed. We brought many things including the dog bed, etc and we were super disappointed with this refusal. Please be administratively professional. You wasted our time and energy.
I also post the picture to show that on booking.com they are on the list of...
