tips Magic hills Bali is ideal for when you’ve had enough of the hustle bustle and rush of the larger cities in Bali.
It’s a brilliant idea, excellently executed. So impressive - the build that everything is made from bamboo I love all the details. These are a few points which PLEASE don’t think take away from the awesomeness of this place but just a few
things to consider before your visit - magic hills really is in the middle of no where, top up your snacks, books and cash if you need too. Especially cash if your thinking of heading to besekih temple!! Absolute robbers (read reviews on trip advisor) Ps also the hotel does not take card!!!!! If you don’t want to sleep outside, forget it. Whilst the structure is like a house there are no windows even upstairs where you think it’s enclosed so there are a lot of critters around Guste was our driver to the villa, our point of call and was very tentative, taking us to all the local places we wanted to see (for extra fee) we just text whenever we were hungry and within 20 minutes the food was there. You can either have in restaurant upstairs or they bring to your room. The portion sizes are okay! I’m just having a particularly hungry week where I could eat two or three plates (heheh). Perhaps I’d suggest to broaden the menu slightly for both breakfast and tea time, perhaps lemon bintang, alcoholic beverages for ladies, offer lunch like wraps whilst I understand this is a big ask it may be some feedback to consider for the future.
We got use of a scooter from magic hills and we would definatly recommend seeing Bali this way, the roads are much quieter than densepar and ubud and are mainly smooth, the other road users are not in a rush - however you may want to consider how far to go as you’re in the hills and weather is unpredictable.
Cleaning/tidying is on point each day.
Bad point - our hot tub ran out of gas meaning we couldn’t use it for a day and didn’t get rectified before we left. So we couldn’t have our floating breakfast. Maybe check your gas bottles upon arrival to ensure adequate time for them to change it over..
This isn’t the place for a lay in. At 5am there is call to prayer (Muslim) which goes on for a while and echos around the hills and staff were banging around (sounded like throwing rocks or moving dustbins) behind our villa (not sure doing what) at 7am which woke me up again.
Bare in mind If you booked a while ago your villa probably had a clear view of the rice terrace , magic hills are un going many builds which have spoilt (in our opinion) the view of queen house (as not bamboo roof) and also there is a lot of noise banging stapling most of the day whilst building near by. This is likely to go on several more months as they are building many more houses.
Loved the flower bath on arrival, balis unique touch. However the bath was cold so we had to run the water and ruin the pattern before we could get in. we upgraded to honeymoon package and didn’t really seem to get much extra so therefore cannot advise or recommend. There was a dirty tissue with browns marks? Down the side of the hot tub the only reason I mention this as I don’t want them to think it was us.
In our villa we seem to have been given half of things. We had coffee tea etc but no spoons or milk. If we could be more self sufficient and have these items? I love nothing more than tea in bed in the morning and whilst you can order it sometimes it’s easier to just be there. We had ghd on our villa which is shower but they do have an odd plug end so we used our adaptor.
WiFi is poor which is ok if your being secluded but once a day at least I like to be able to check everything is ok back home.
In terms of feedback me and my partner both agree that having been made aware of the work ahead of time would’ve been appreciated and having the restaurant finished would be a nice touch for Something else to do in the evening. Thanks for...
Read morePros: Beautiful room (stayed in Nomad) that was very sheltered from view. No view of the rice paddies but that wasn’t a deal breaker. Best shower of Bali. Lots of accommodations in the room (pool / shower / tub / awesome hanging net) Interesting construction. Temperature was cool enough at night to not need air conditioning, but I imagine it might be different at hotter times in the year. Massages were awesome, the photographer was great and very professional, and the flower bath was beautiful!
Cons: Food: the most abysmal food we had the entire time we were on the island. Seriously so bad, haven’t stopped talking about how bad the food was since we left there. It was inedible, and the menu was a poor attempt at copying the other eco lodge, nearly word for word, down the street (went there for all of our meals after our first few experiences of the Magic Hills food). Dietary restrictions don’t seem to be taken seriously, and when I asked about an item that had an ingredient that I can’t eat, I was told I was wrong (even though it was very obviously included). It felt like they had multiple menu options where they had no clue what they were or how to make them. For the price that we paid a night, they need to find a proper chef who can actually cook, or remove the items where they don’t know how to cook them (how can you mess up nachos???). There’s also very few other food options in the area, grabs (ridesharing) are basically unavailable.
Activities: very expensive compared to the rest of the island, and seemed unorganized. We were asked multiple times if we had arranged transport for what we chose even though transport was included in the activity description. There were multiple points during the activities where we were being asked to pay again, even though we were paying through the hotel. Seemed like there was a consistent lack of communication between everyone involved - even though walkie talkies were everywhere you looked on the staff members.
Eco Lodge: a true eco lodge wouldn’t wrap everything in multiple layers of single use plastic wrap so tightly you couldn’t get it off without cutting it or spilling food.
Would not return and I wish we had just spent the extra money on the resort that’s right down the street from them (better food, kinder staff, better service). We knew their waiter by name after eating there twice and he remembered my husband’s coffee order (which never would’ve happened at Magic Hills). This was the place I was looking forward to the most on our honeymoon and it was so...
Read moreMy partner and I recently had the pleasure of staying at Magic Hills in Bali, and it was an experience we'll never forget. We stayed for one night in the Nomad House, and from the moment we arrived, we were enchanted by the unique and beautiful design of the bamboo house.
Despite being an all-open house, we were pleasantly surprised by how comfortable and cozy it was to sleep in the Nomad House. The mosquito net protected us well from insects, and even though it was raining at night, it felt super cozy and peaceful to sleep here.
The upstairs area of the house was our favorite spot. Here, we had a delicious dinner prepared by Samaya Dining, complete with personalized service and impeccable attention to detail. As we dined, we were able to watch a movie on the projector, which was so cool and definitely added to our overall experience from here.
The next morning, we were treated to a delicious breakfast that was both beautifully presented and incredibly tasty.
Overall, our stay at Magic Hills was nothing short of magical. The combination of stunning design, impeccable service, and breathtaking views made it a truly unforgettable experience. We cannot recommend Magic Hills highly enough and look forward to returning...
