I am so very much in love with Maha Neka and Sidemen in general that words fail me. I can't even describe the beauty of this quiet little charming hillside village and the peace and serenity that it brings me.||||This is REAL Bali, and Bali at its best. It is a peaceful little hamlet nestled amidst terraced ricefields in between verdant mountain peaks. There is one tiny road that you could happily walk on to explore the village and not worry at all about traffic, loud ugly motorbikes (think Canggu) or traffic jams. The whole village runs on LOCAL businesses (or at least they partner with the locals) which is great news because every little villa and restaurant is authentic, with genuine owners and genuine service and NO over-development (think Seminyak and Kuta) to block the immortal views that you can enjoy from EVERY direction. It is nature sounds from the minute you wake up and well into the night. The air is cool and fresh, and there is a gentle breeze blowing through which you can enjoy because there are no high-rise/massive/ugly developments to block it (thank God). ||||I found Maha Neka villa online, and I am so happy that I made the booking to stay there. There are only 2 pretty little villas in a charming little garden that overlooks rice fields and in the distant, Mount Agung. I was so surprised to see what I was getting - for the price that I was paying. There is a beautiful four poster bed, amazing bedding, a vanity and a wardrobe. The bathroom is spacious and clean and the whole space was built to maximize light and fresh air.||||Maha Neka is owned by a Balinese family. The owner, (I call him Mangku) is so kind and so friendly. There is also a little restaurant on site. The food is so delicious and comes in large portions - it's really great value for the price! In the morning, we were served a large bowl of really fresh and sweet fruits, banana pancakes and delicious Bali coffee. ||||I really really recommend Maha Neka Villa for those looking for some quiet getaway time. You'll enjoy a stellar five-star experience but with great value for money! ||||When the time came for me to drive back to Denpasar, I was so sad that I shed a few tears. I really, really can't wait to...
Read moreWe really enjoyed our 3 night stay in Ari's villa (I think it may have been the slightly more expensive one of the two). The views from the balcony were great. When the cloud cleared, we could see Gunung Agung in the distance (about 23km away). Closer, we enjoyed watching the chooks scratching in the vegetable garden out front.||||Our villa was equipped with a beautiful big bed, a great mosquito net, a wall mounted fan, big indoor bathroom with hot water, sliding glass doors with a divine view of the valley. It was not especially private, as the garden has not yet matured, but by the same token, we experienced no intrusion.||||Ari serves a great, simple breakfast of fruit salad, and your choice of eggs and toast, pancakes or black rice porridge, plus kopi Bali or tea (we opted for tea).||||It's centrally located amongst all the tourist restaurants in Tabola village, but an easy 15 minute walk into the local market, if you want to take a look early in the morning and maybe pick up some freshly made banana fritters for the equivalent of a few cents from the super friendly locals. You could also walk to the endek weaving centre, located on the main road out of town. (Be warned that the ATMs here did not work for us!).||||Sidemen is a seriously gorgeous destination and Ari was a very friendly and extremely laid back host. If you're bothered by the lack of pool, you can easily swim at the nearby hotels for...
