Very disappointing stay. When you arrived on site at 11/11:30 am, the establishment was closed. We surprise the manager who asks us to wait while we get dressed!? We introduce ourselves, but he doesn't seem to understand. In the meantime we start him a drink. We understand very quickly that he has no knowledge of our reservation for 2 nights.
However, we had contacted the owner on the Booking.com platform during our reservation requesting a room with a beautiful view! We had received a response advising that he was going to give us the best!
(We realized later that it was not the owner but a Booking.com manager on Sidemen. The message never got to the owner)
We ask to settle in our room, obviously not ready! A Spartan room. We ask for sheets, towels... There was no soap or toilet paper. We had to collect a few paper napkins from the tables at the Warung!! We told the manager who had no desire to do better. In the evening a big storm broke out on Sidemen, our terrace was flooded. We ask for a "mop" in order to try this one, the manager replies that he doesn't have one and hands us some old pants to do it ourselves!? We had booked and paid for 2 breakfasts, like the rest! We did not have the pleasure of tasting the 2nd breakfast. Like the previous morning, we had asked to be served at 9am, because we were back on the road in the morning. It was not our surprise to find the establishment closed, shutters lowered at 9am...We went to take our breakfast elsewhere. The manager arrived "like a flower" after 10 am, surprised to see us leave! For a similar price, there are more welcoming and serious places than...
Read moreOur arrival in Sidemen began with a delightful encounter. As we walked down the road, a friendly, smiley man warmly invited us into his establishment. Although we had already made plans for our first night, his genuine demeanor left a lasting impression on us.
The following day, remembering his kind smile, we decided to visit Bukit Artha for lunch. From the moment we entered, we felt an immediate sense of welcome and special treatment. Our host showed us guestbooks filled with heartfelt entries from visitors over the years, which I found enchanting to read as we enjoyed our meal. The food was nothing short of amazing, perfectly capturing the authentic flavors of the region.
Later that evening, as we contemplated our dining options, we had no hesitation in returning to this wonderful eatery. Bukit Artha, the second oldest restaurant in the area, is owned and run by a true Sidemen resident, adding to its charm and authenticity. The food continued to impress, and the atmosphere was equally delightful.
We wholeheartedly recommend Bukit Artha to anyone visiting Sidemen. And to the Swiss couple, Anya and Michael, if you read this review, it was a pleasure meeting you. Enjoy your stay...
Read moreMy comment cannot do this place justice. The owner who served us for dinner, was just outstanding. I cannot put it into justified diction of how funny, friendly and kind he was. The prices were reasonable and you will not be disappointed by the high quality of food. Congratulations on such a fine establishment, and if you are ever in the area, you would be unwise to miss this incredible experience. Absolutely fantastic - and if you look at the guest book from 2024 look for my page with the Isixhosa from South Africa 🇿🇦😉. The kind of enthusiasm and friendliness and laughter present here, is so wholesome and unique, and something we can easily lose sight of in our busy lives, taking moments to just all laugh ridiculously here made this...
