Pak Tasrip Homestay is a traveller friendly accommodation for those interested in climbing Mount Semeru.Thomas speaks fluent english and will help you to arrange the gear, food and local guides to get mount Semeru summit. The accomodation is basic but clean, they prepare indonesian style meals at your request.The climb to mount Semeru is doable without guide (unless you are on tight budget is better with a local guide) because there is a lot of young Indonesian people climbing so just follow them or look for the trail of garbage along the path (it is a shame). You will need two days at least. Camp at Kalimati and climb in the early morning. Pak Tasrip Homestay will supply you with all the gear you need.||Some Tips: ||- Do not underestimate the climbing it is hard and is not for the heart fainted. Cold temperatures and exhausting takes a toll on climbers and not everybody get the summit.||- Is better to start the climbing in Kalimati at 00:00 if you are moderately fitted. And you will need to take a rest every 15 minutes.||- The last stretch to the summit is a grueling fight walking on volcanic gravel during 7-8 hours. This is a dangerous area, never lost the trail, follow the climbers and their torch lights. Outside the path the terrain is too rugged with deep cliffs. Walk in zig zag mode and never lose trail.||- High hiking boots and gaiters are advisable because the loose stones will get into your shoes and hurt your foot.||- Remember from November to March is wet season and not advisable to climbing...
Read moreI went there to Ranu Pani last week just to know that Mt Semeru is closed. So the Ojek recommend me a homestay nearby. It was not climbing season so he was reluctant to give a room. I think we was worried about his reputation but he did well nonetheless. ||There was hot water and squatting toilet. Bed was okay. Room has no heater. Read moreThis weekend we stayed at Pak Tasrip homestay and we had a great experience! We climbed the mount Semeru and the owner Thomas literally helped with everything. We could rent all the gear, he arrranged porters and all the food for two days on the mountain. This all for a very far price.He also drove us back to Malang after the trekking. He is very kind and helpfull and speaks good english!! Highly recommend...
