Time for my review :) which will be quite mixed. There are things I loved about my visit, but there are also a lot of cons. First up- service level, is surely 5 star to me. Everyone really tries to make my stay pleasant - everyone. reception, bell boys cleaners, maintenance guys, restaurant staff. Really nice, well done there. Next, the resort itself- it's a sprawling property with no high rise, so everyone gets sort of a landed property (kampung house) feel. Even the patio rooms. Very nice grounds. Rooms! Now thats the issue. Rooms are not 4 star level today in 2025, perhaps it was 20 years ago. Fittings all need to be updated. Change all lights to LED lights, renew light fixtures pls. They look so old. Cleanliness, not great. My mozzie net (kelambu) was dirty, i had to get them to change. doesn't seem to have been cleaned. Curtains looks horrible, pls change them to new ones. The outdoor shower/bath gives a rustic feel, as it's partially open air (like a yard). I don't mind as i grew up in a house similar to this, but some will not appreciate the numerous bugs and house geckos lurking around. The shower doesn't have a hand held shower head! U have to use the bidet spray. Also the bidet spray can't reach your bum when you sit on the toilet. pls change all bidet hose to longer ones, at least an additional 1m. Then there are the mozzies. Too many of them. And they know it, that's why the kelambu. The kelambu weirdly cannot be totally drawn shut, you need clothes pegs to hold it shut at the foot of the bed. :( Room is way too dark. Also, totally non-existent sound proofing. One can literally hear everything in the next room. Bring ear plugs. I asked management for ear plugs on day one, they didn't have any. Management, pls prepare a supply of ear plugs, cmon you are a 4 star resort! Part of the problem is that the showers are outdoors, so you can hear the neighbours in the toilet :( Also the skylight and main door is mostly glass, and the glass is very thin. If i shut the main door, sit outside in the patio, and leave the TV on at 10% volume, i could still hear the TV programme. That's pretty bad sound proofing to me. It means you hear anyone walking past at night .
Grounds: The whole resort is very nice, rustic, beautifully manicured, lovely.. during the day. At night, however, it gets way too dark. Walking back to my room at 10pm I actually have to quicken my pace. There is a big difference btw "romantic" and "so dark that safety issues arise" - like falling into the gutter, or thwacking your face into a low hanging branch - of which there are a fair number). Solution? Again, change all the lights to LED lights.
Spa: Again, at first glance, looks great. But look closer, and the fixtures, fittings etc are all about 20 years old. Pls do some renovation , varnish old furnitures if you want to keep the rustic feel. pricing is 4* pricing, but the therapist was very good.
Food/ resto - ok, some items are nice, others not. The breakfast buffet is limited variety, and doesn't change daily. Mozzies are a big problem after 6pm. I kill at least 5 or 6 mozzies every night during dinner. Management should give me discount on my food in future for my mozzie killing services. Great / picturesque view of the bay from the resto tho, best view in the resort.
PADI dive center - this is probably one of the star of the resort. Clean, equipment looks well maintained, professional dive masters, etc.. a proper dive center here. 5 stars for this.
To summarise, great staff, great dive center, on par quality for food altho lack variety and consistency. Rooms desperately need to be refurbished. Or maybe I got a room that they haven't renovated yet.
Will return? yes, but only becos of the diving sites nearby (15 min boat ride to menjangan island), and the price is reasonable. Anything above 100USD a night and i think guests might start looking elsewhere. Biggest let down is the conditions of the rooms. And dear mimpi management, if you don't believe me, pls... look under the bed of room 225. You call that...
Read moreThis accommodation is a hot spring resort in the Menjangan area in northwest Bali. It's a luxury villa that many Japanese people visit. Access is by car only: it's a five-hour drive from Bali Airport, and fares cost over 70USD with GoJek or Grab, so chartering a car may be cheaper. There's nothing nearby, so you had better buy drinks and other items in advance. The reception is located in an open-air area, and although there were many staff members, it was crowded with people checking in because there was only one staff there. The resort is large and seems to put a lot of effort into maintenance, but it has been 27 years since it opened, so the building has deteriorated and the facilities are old. The main building is divided into two rooms, so although it looks like a private home, you can hear everything from your neighbors. The private garden has a lovely atmosphere, but the open-air bath and the open bed next to it were weathered and dirty. I would often use them in and out, but my female partner avoided them. The biggest problem is that it takes four hours to fill the open-air bath in the guest room. I had booked a king-size bed but they arranged a twin room because they were fully booked. The room was smaller than I expected, and even with the lights on it was quite dark at night. The curtains were thin, so the light woke me up in the morning. There was Wi-Fi, but the speed was quite slow, which was disappointing. Maybe because the building is old, there were few outlets. The bathroom was partially outdoors, so insects and geckos could get in. The hotel has a shared pool and open-air hot spring bath on the hotel grounds. The open-air bath facing the ocean had a great view, but it was small and got crowded when there were guests. There is also a shared open-air bath near the villa, but it was covered in fallen leaves and trash and was in such a poor condition that it was difficult to use. I think this should be improved. The restaurant near the ocean was open and had a beautiful view. Breakfast is a buffet when there are many guests, and à la carte when there are not. The restaurant is about a 5-minute walk from the villa, so it might be a bit tough on rainy days. As it's surrounded by nature, there were monkeys and squirrels on the premises. The staff were all friendly and smiling, except for the bossy staff at the front desk. Overall, my excitement was dampened at first by the weathered appearance of the building and old facilities, but by the second day it started to seem like it had original taste.
Although there are many issues to be addressed, I think this is a valuable hot spring inn in Bali.

Read moreThis was my first stay at Mimpi Resort Menjangan, and it truly exceeded all my expectations. Having tried many resorts in Bali, I can confidently say that this is the best when comparing price, amenities, and service. The booking process was seamless; I made my reservation just one day before my arrival, and everything went smoothly. As I was driving my electric vehicle (EV) from Nusa Dua to Menjangan, I was initially worried about charging my car. Fortunately, the Mimpi Resort team provided a fantastic solution by offering free EV charging stations, which eased my concerns significantly. The journey to the resort took over three hours from the city center, but it was an enjoyable drive. Upon arrival, I received a warm welcome that showcased their exceptional hospitality. Everything was efficient, and I was greeted with a refreshing welcome drink and oshibori, which added a special touch to my experience. I was also impressed by the flexibility of the staff when I wanted to change my package inclusion from a spa treatment to dinner. They accommodated my request with genuine enthusiasm, making me feel valued as a guest. I stayed in a villa complete with a hot spring and swimming pool, which made my stay even more delightful. The hotel and room facilities were impressive and met all my needs. I thoroughly enjoyed the delicious food during dinner, and there were plenty of activities available within the resort. My room was beautifully decorated and provided all necessary amenities. To my surprise, they even extended my check-out time to 2 PM at no extra charge, which I greatly appreciated. One of the highlights for me was the hot spring, a feature not available in every hotel, and it was simply wonderful! However, there are a few areas where the resort could improve. The cleanliness and maintenance of the resort need attention; I noticed some debris in the villa and areas that could benefit from a thorough cleaning. Additionally, the breakfast offerings could be enhanced in terms of variety and taste. I also encountered quite a few mosquitoes around the resort. While electric mosquito repellents were provided, they weren't sufficient, and I hope they can offer mosquito lotion in the future. Overall, Mimpi Resort Menjangan is a fantastic choice for anyone looking for a relaxing getaway, with just a few areas that could use some...
