The location is perfect if you like a quite place. It's a nice little bungalow a bit away from the town. The view from the bungalow is beautifull. Also the reef in front of the bungalow is perfect for snorkeling, especially the big rock around 20m sea inwards is really nice. The way to the hotel is very dark in the night, you will need a flashlight, but if the skies are clear you can see the milky-way and so many stars! So we liked that it was dark. The Bungalows themselfs are lit up and we almost found that a downside because you couldn't see the stars so well haha.
There were a few things we didn't like so much though. The fridge had black mold in it, which was pretty gross. The shower was also a bit dirty and there was still a used soap + dishwasher soap (??) on the rack. The stairs from the reception downwards are also very unlogical and weird. You can't use the ATM if you're from Europe / America (June 2022) so get some money before you reach banda aceh / pulau weg. Our host helped us with getting cash. However, we disliked our host quite a bit anyways.. 😕
When we arrived we asked what were some nice things to do on the island. He replied with: eehm yeah some snorkeling. What else can you do here.. Hmm nothing really just some snorkeling. Which was a bit weird. And a bit indifferent. He made fun of how little he payed his staff. When we asked him if he knew where to get musquito repellent he told us to just get used to them. When we came to the reception to ask for towels (12.00 pm) he was either drunk or high, which was also pretty weird.. He came over pretty negative which didn't help for our holiday mood.
All in all, this is a very nice stay if you like snorkling, a quite place and don't need too...
Read moreTreetop guesthouse really is an amazing place to stay on Pulau Weh. The apartment is spacious: it has 3 airconditioned bedrooms so our family (2 parents, two teenagers) had some room for themselves after few weeks of travelling. Its clean and beautiful situated directly at the sea. Nice hammock I used for hours every day. Two warm showers and a little kitchen that we used to make coffee and tea. During our stay the owner Wiggy brought a new fridge with freezer. In front of the apartment is a coral reef. The coral itself has been heavily damaged by the 2004 Tsunami and unfortunately restorations afterwards were not that successful. Fish are beautiful though, we spent at least an hour snorkeling each day (see pictures) The owner Wiggy is a very nice guy with a great sense of humor. He contacted us every day to see if everything was fine. Has a lot of knowledge about the island and the village and was a great help in organizing our trip back from Pulau Weh to Medan: arranged drivers and bus tickets for the DeLuxe overnight bus from Banda Aceh to Medan. (a way of transport we can recommend - as long as you take the DeLuxe bus that has 3 seats, the other busses are horrible). Wiggy also advised us some restaurants like Le Café Bleu and Molina's Café what were indeed great places to eat (see my reviews). The restaurants are in the village, which is quite small - you can go everywhere by foot from Treetop. We really, really hope tourists find there way back to Pulau Weh after Covid because the island and the people really...
Read moreWe stayed at Treetop for seven nights. What a beautiful location for our little bungalow overlooking the sea. The accommodation comprised of a bedroom with fridge and water dispenser, en suite bathroom, and balcony with chairs and a hammock. There was a mosquito net over the bed (which we didn’t need to use) and AC (which we did). The owner, Wiggy, was very helpful with info prior to our stay, and when we arrived by directing us to restaurants, hiring scooters, sights to see, ferry times, taxis, etc. We came during Ramadan which meant most of the businesses were closed. We were diving most days and found a lovely place for lunch by our dive centre on Gapang Beach, an 8min scooter ride away and alternated our evening meals between the restaurant about 200m from our bungalow and another restaurant approx 10min walk towards Iboih beach. When Ramadan is over there are lots of restaurants close by. We were diving most days, but also went snorkelling just in front of the bungalow; there are steps down to the shore, but the beach has lots of pebbles and boulders so I’d recommend wetsuit shoes. Once in, it was like a tropical fish-tank, with lots of sea-life to see. We found the area a perfect location for the diving centres (of which there are many), several are in walking distance. Would highly...
