  1. The reservation for my room as made on the 18th of December by a friend of mine who lives in Tarakan. The price that was agreed on was Rp. 240.000,= per night, starting from the 21st of December and for a period of 6 weeks (the standard price for a room). A discount for a long stay was not negotiable. When I arrived in the Dynasty Hotel on 21 December I, inspite of price agreement of the 18th of December, was told that the price agreement (the standard price) only would be applicable for the first night and that from the 22nd of December on, until the 6th of January, because of Christmas and New Year, the price would be risen to Rp. 270.000,= per night. After new year, from the 6th of January until the end of my stay, the price would go back to Rp. 240.000,= again. After the 6th of January I however was told that, in spite of the price agreement of the 18th of December and the above mentioned, the price would stay Rp. 270.000,= for the rest of my stay. I therefore told the assistant manager (Mister Henri) that I wanted to speak to the owner/manager of the hotel. I asked for this at least five times. The first time I was told that the owner was in Bali and would not return for several weeks. The second time I was told that, however the owner was back in Tarakan, he didn’t return to the hotel yet. The third time I was told that, however the owner came to the hotel, it was only for a short while and that he didn’t have the time to talk to me. The fourth time I was told that, however the owner had been in the hotel the whole morning, he again didn’t have the time to talk to me. The fifth time I was told by the assistant manager (Mister Henri), that the owner didn’t want to talk to me and that he let me know that he just raised the price because he, according to the terms and conditions of the hotel, was allowed to do so. I therefore was ripped off Rp. 1.300.000,=. And even then they had the guts, while I was checking out, to ask me for Rp 10.000,= for a glass I broke in my room during my stay.||2) Almost none of the features of this hotel mentioned on any booking site (including their own site) is consistent with the truth. For example:||a) The room service, although available, serves very bad and disgusting food for a very high price.||b)Transport to and from the airport, although available, will cost you Rp. 50.000,=. For that kind of money you can eat with two persons in a decent restaurant.||c) Although mentioned in the features there is no free Wifi. Free WiFi is only available for the most expensive rooms and is of very poor quality.||d) Although mentioned in the features there is no smoking area. Smoking takes place everywhere in the hotel. In the restaurant while you are eating your breakfast, in the lobby, in the hallways and in all hotel rooms. The place is a smokers paradise.||3) The rooms are filthy. The sheets and blankets are dirty and full of cigarette burning ||holes, as well as in most of the furniture. The rooms really look like a dump.||4) The bathroom is filthy, full of mold and bacteria, the toilet is covered with a thin-layer/film of feces and urine of the previous guests and the sink looks like it hasn’t been cleaned for at least five years (see the pictures).||5) The water from the shower contains huge amounts of chlorine (to disinfect the water) and it makes you smell like a swimming pool for the rest of the day. Don’t bother to use any soap or deodorant; you will not smell it anyway.||6)The room is full of cockroaches and mosquitoes, which will enter the room through holes in the ceiling and that will find refuge in your suitcase, in your food and that will even accompany in your bed at night (see picture). ||7) The air conditioning is yellow on the outside (from all the nicotine from previous guests), the air exposed smells like a sewer and the AC leaks about two liters of water every day. The air conditioner definitely hadn’t been cleaned for numerous years and the transposed air made me sick. ||8) The place is very noisy. The screaming and yelling in the hallways usually goes on until 1 o’clock at night and it’s therefore virtually impossible to go to sleep before midnight. ||9) The hotel is situated only 30 meters from a Mosk that will call for prayer at 4.30 in the morning. For most Muslims an advantage to be woken up for prayer at this time, but for most Westerners a very annoying situation. So, if you are “lucky” you will be able to sleep at 1 o’clock at night and you will be woken up again at 4.30 in the morning.||10) The desk staff is among the most disinterested and impolite I’ve ever met in any hotel in Indonesia. The don’t even bother too look at you while talking to you and they are only interested in as much of your money...

Stayed just one night there, but it was a good night.||||Bedroom and bathroom were clean. Wifi worked well. Restaurant was ok as well. Staff at the frontdesk spoke good english. All the info given turned out to be correct. Fair-priced airport-transfer as well (50000).||||The location on google-maps (as of march 2015) is wrong. The hotel is along the main road from the harbour to the town-center. Ojeks know the place (10000 from the harbour are ok). Rooms start around 200000. ATM is just around the corner.||||I probably will never be back in Tarakan but if yes then I would go back there. ||||Ask for a room on the higher floors. Nice views of the town and even less noise from the street (though during the night it was very quiet! It is a...

For me, this hotel is okay. Clean, friendly staff, and the location is strategic. You can not expect much, but if a decent place to sleep is all you need, I would choose this hotel.

Nice and comfortable hotel with breakfast, WiFi, Ac, hot shower, tv and lift. Many food outlets and shops are available nearby. The room price is very affordable.
