I booked the hotel back in January and asked for a twin room. However, upon arrival we were given a small double as there were no twins available. Somewhat disappointing seeing that I had booked over 6 months ago! |The room was extremely noisy with road traffic and very hot. I asked to be moved for our next two nights. The room number 25 was larger, had a kingsized bed and single but quiet as it was towards the rear of the hotel. |The beds are of good quality and comfortable. Bed linen good too. The rooms are dated and a bit shabby. The carpets are old and extremely rucked up. |Windows needed cleaning. Shower room small but functional. A few minor defects. We were told that all the rooms were programmed for upgrades. ||However, on to the good points! The food was amazing. We ate in the hotel twice and on both occasions the service was quick and efficient. The waiting staff were friendly and very accommodating especially with two of my party having food allergies. ||The restaurant had a nice atmosphere. It was clean and well maintained, ||The hotel sadly lacks a lounge area for guests to relax in after an evening meal, there were only eight comfortable chairs in the lobby. I feel that a lounge area would be a great asset to the hotel, ||My friends and I spoke with Andrew on our final evening, complimenting him and his staff with regards to their efficiency.|However, we were badly let down by one of staff! We had ordered our breakfasts the night before, as advised, as we were leaving early for the ferry port. ||We arrived in the restaurant at 6.50 having been told that the kitchens didn’t open until 7. We say and waited 10 minutes but no breakfasts were served to us. I asked the waitress about our breakfast and she said nothing had been pre ordered even though I had watched the waitress write down our order the previous evening! |It was a mad panic and rush to serve us, we only wanted cold breakfasts with hot beverages. We have to leave half of it as we needed to get to ferry! |Extremely disappointed with the final part of our stay at the hotel! |Future guests, catching the ferry, please be aware of this and ensure that your breakfasts are actually ordered...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed here for 1 night, last Sunday. We have stayed here before, and had no issues previously, so we said we'd stay here again - especially as it was very close to where we needed to be/go.
It is a 3 star hotel - and from our experience - it's a good 3 star. There is ample car parking available and it is free, (which is always a plus). There is also free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel.
The room we were assigned was a good size room - but that's probably because it had both a double and a single bed in the room (which was more than we needed). The room, itself, is nice. It was very clean and had all the basic amenities - but it just felt a little dated/tired.
The bathroom, though, was very, very small. Everything worked fine - but for a room that is primarily for 3 people - I think it would feel a little cramped. Despite the small size, it was well decorated and felt 'bright'. However, it really needs more shelves - the one they have is tiny - there was only 2 of us in the room but both my wife and I had to leave all our bathroom items on the window shelf that was located just outside of the bathroom door. I know it's not the end of the world - but the whole point of staying in a hotel is to be relaxed - not having all our toiletries in the bathroom when we needed them (and where they should be anyway) just puts a little damper on the experience.
We opted for the B&B rate this time - and breakfast was quite good. The food was hot and the plates were hot - so that's always a plus. The fry was tasty - but the sausage was very poor. Overall, for a 3 star hotel, it matched its rating.
However, we had a very pleasant stay. If you are in Wexford and need a place to stay - or if you are due to get a ferry from Rosslare and need an over-night place - I would certainly recommend The Farmers Kitchen as a...
Read moreWe had four car's in our party,as we were attending a wedding west of Dublin, so arriving off the ferry in the early evening, we decided to stay over night at The Farmers Kitchen before the long drive to the wedding venue.|Arriving, following a short 20 minute drive from the Rosslare terminal, we arrived in the large carpark. Check-in was welcoming, quick and smooth.|My room was large with double and single beds plus a window couch, chair, table, tv and plenty of tea and coffee. The bathroom was a decent size and the shower was ideal.|We met in the traditional atmosphere pub, Irene Scallan's Bar that is attached to the hotel, for a pre-meal drinkalso a special mention for the friendly bartender.|We ate in Gastro Lounge restaurant, we were a table of 13 but the staff were excellent, as was the food and at a good price. My vegetable 'soup of the day' and breaded plaice were both filling and delicious.|Following a comfy night's sleep, we had breakfast in the same place. The waiting staff were very obliging and my Full Irish Breakfast was more than ample.|Some of the areas of this hotel are a little dated and tired, personally I liked it's character and the general feel of the place, coupled with the hospitable staff, meant I had a enjoyable...
