This was our second trip to Agliano Terme in Piedmont, southeast of Asti, this time with friends who had previously stayed in this hotel. We drove down from Switzerland via the Frejus tunnel, which is less than four hours.||||Unlike our last stay (in the Naturalmente, also very good) the Locanda San Giacomo is located right in the centre of the hilltop village, just off the main square. Some car parking is available in the square.||||Certain rooms have a view over the square and out over the hills. Our room was on the non-square side of the hotel looking out over a peristyle garden and with a fine view of the surrounding countryside. It was possibly quieter, although as in all Italian villages you should expect church bells on Sunday mornings and at other times on public holidays.||||The rooms were large, comfortable and had good amenities including decent free wi-fi. Spare pillows and bed comforters were also available. There was a fridge/mini bar, as well as hot drink making facilities. The bathroom was large, with a bath and a shower attachment (which required a little care to use to avoid spraying about too much but is perfectly manageable).||||The breakfast was fantastic—although definitely pitched more at the gourmande than the health fanatic. Excellent coffee, naturally. And served in an elegant breakfast room.||||There were many wonderful things about the hotel. The best feature, however, was the extremely helpful and friendly service we received at all times. For instance, staying with another couple over Easter, we hadn't realised it would be difficult to find somewhere to eat lunch or dinner on Sunday. The hotel staff rang around on Saturday and helped to find us a couple of amazing places in the area—one as far away as Borgomale in the hills near Alba, which turned out to be a fantastic experience.||||Downsides? There weren't really any. The rooms are not the most modern, but this had its own charm, and they were elegantly appointed and very comfortable. I have no hesitation about recommending this hotel, just as I recommended the Naturalmente, an alternative a a few minutes out of town for those looking for more seclusion, a pool, or outside space for the kids...
Read moreA group of us were staying in Agliano Terme for friends 50th Birthday celebrations. I didn't stay at this hotel but some of our group did. We had a chance to view the rooms they were staying in & they were beautiful, very large & very nicely furnished. We were invited for drinks one evening in the garden which was delightful. The owners made us feel really welcome & prepared lovely aperitif's. On our last morning in Agliano Terme we all were invited to have breakfast at the hotel, again made very welcome. The owners are really lovely people . If I revisit this area I would definitely stay at this hotel. Yes it is beside a church so the bells do ring but this should...
Read moreThe Locanda San Giacomo is a small hotel inside what used to be the post office, located right in the centre of tiny Agliano Terme, but with a terrace overlooking the private garden and the views in the back. Friendly owners and staff. Very good breakfast and a bar service is available in the afternoon on request. The rooms are large and very clean. The decoration is almost like a time travel, with the hotel having been lavishly renovated in the 1980's and scrupulously maintained since. A very nice place to stay if visiting Agliano Terme and the wine...
