I have mixed feelings when i think about our 2 week stay at the Villaggio dei Turchesi. Definitely the friendly staff made up for some of the infrastructure shortcomings.
The highlight of my stay was the warm, welcoming people - from the attentive servers at the on-site restaurant or friendly host at the lido! Their friendliness and attention to detail made up a lot of the bad experiences.
The aging infrastructure definitely is in need of renovations. Specifically the bathroom in the small villa was very disappointing, primarily worn down and dirty that you'd expect of a 2-star motel, not a 4-star resort. We heard other guests were luckier with big walk-in showers in their units and not just an old small 90x90 cabin and very worn interior. Some of the people we have met came already for years, therefore they specifically have chosen the village they want again and they knew which ones were in a better condition. The pool area was also showing signs of wear with chipped paint, therefore when there had been a lot of people in the water it was often very dirty.
On cleaning part, the cleaning crew missed the mark on properly sanitizing our villa. it seemed it wasn't properly cleaned, dirty kitchen, furniture full of dust, mold in bathroom, etc. On a positive side note, we reported it the staff immediately took care of it but still we had to check on a daily basis. I must add that we also paid for the daily cleaning service.
Families with small children should be aware there were no water slides or games at the pool. The village itself has playgrounds for small kids but not at the pool itself.
The lido is very nice and very friendly people. The bar at the lido is well equipped for doing an aperitivo, or having a great breakfast as the sweets are very good. The owner is also very nice and such as the bagnina. There is also a tabaccaio next to the lido, right where the daily shuttle leaves you. It is well equipped and has also games for the kids in order to play at the beach.
They organized also events at the village, every week. The would have been great if the dinner itself (open buffet) would have been not such disorganization. I understood why people started straight with the main meal at the buffet as there had been huge lines, people with small kids waiting more than 30 min for their turn, and then there had been not enough food for some of the choices. Apparently this was nothing new as per the feedback from other guests and this happened also the years before. Therefore we learned when going there for the first event and then on the second event we basically skipped the food and ate in our apartment which paid off. The sea itself was ok but not super nice.
All in all the stay was ok but wouldn't return to this village unless the village would be modernized. As well i wouldn't recommend it to families with small kids and rather bigger ones, as the parents would enjoy more.
To the manager's credit, they were receptive to my concerns and provided a reimbursement for the issues experienced after i have engaged with them...
Read moreThis has been my forth stay in I Turchesi club village. Again we had a fabulous time. The pool is amazing and is especially good for kids and senior members of the family as you have a side of the pool that has a gradual slope. Plus you are allowed to use floats, noodles, inflatables etc. even though we went in august we always found Sun beds available. You are limited to 2 beds and an umbrella per apartment, but there are plenty of chairs to use. However the weather was sunny and hot, so we just hung out in the pool. The pool bar is good value and offers ice cream, cold drinks and snacks. There is entertainment at the pool in the morning and early evening. between the times of 12.30 and 4.00 the pool is quiet and the pool bar is closed between 2.00 and 4.00. The main bar is open all day.|The apartments are pretty well equipped. Air conditioning in the main living area and bedroom. With a full kitchen, dishwasher and fridge freezer. Towels and bed linen is provided. We asked for a ground floor apartment which we got. |The restaurant is lovely too, though I would of liked more pasta dishes. However we had takeaway pizza a few times and it was delicious and good value for money. I advice you order early as there can be a bit of wait on busy evening.|The shop is fabulous, well stocked and not over priced. Lots of lovely Italian breads, meats, cheese etc. Infact I’d say it’s a real asset to the resort. We didn’t have a car, but this wasn’t an issue, because the shop had everything we needed. Please note: medication and tobacco is sold in specific shops in Italy and wasn’t available on site. There is a pharmacy and tobacconist in the town.|The resort offers a free shuttle bus to the beach, where you will find free sun beds and umbrellas (you do have to pay extra to reserve the first 2 rows). There is a good cafe/restaurant at the beach too. The sea was delightful, clean, warm and calm.|The staff overall are. Helpful, friendly and speak good English. Our TV and cooker didn’t work when we first got there. We went to reception and they sent someone straight away and the problem was sorted.|Ok the entertainment can be loud, but it’s good fun. Italians love to dance and have fun. It’s an Italian resort so expect lots of that. |Me and my family (15 altogether young and old) loved our holiday and will visit again.|If you want to visit around the area there is a limited bus service. The resort can organise trips, but they were a bit pricey. If you have a car I recommend Matera in the evening and the magical town of Alberobello. There is a water park 20 mins away near Ginosa, that’s a fun day out and the lasagna was amazing. |Overall a really great family holiday. Everyone had an wonderful time.|Ok the down side, not much really. I’d love it if there was a real ice cream parlour at the resort. Plus our shower cubicle could done with replacing.|I will got again and so will the rest of the family, thank you I Turchesi for making our stay...
Read moreWe arrived on 21/9 and we were very late due to a flight delay from uk. On first arrival the village looked beautiful and come the morning we were not disappointed. As it was late we were advised where our rooms were and left to our own devises to find it. Our group included my inlaws who have severe mobility issues and the hotel were very kind to borrow us a wheelchair for my father in law. Apartments were lovely very spacious and clean with lovely fresh linen and towels. Only thing I would suggest is that as this is a self catering appartment a welcome pack with basics eg tea/coffer/sugar/milk/bread/butter would be great and if you choose to purchase them you pay if not take back to reception, we were in garden view rooms which were great but I would of preferred a pool view which we asked about and the staff again were great to accomadate and we were moved 2 days later as soon as they became available. The daytime reception staff were most helpful and even arranged a private car to take my father in law to the beach as he was unable to get on the shuttle bus and they sent it back again when we were ready to return. We booked this holiday as a last minute break and didn’t realise that it was the end of the season so we’re surprised no entertainment and that the onsite shop had very little produce to offer The pool area was amazing and lots of gradual steps to get on the water a lovely way to cool off with the glorious sunshine. We went to the beach which the hotel has a private section and a fabulous bar and restaurant again the staff could not do enough for us with free sun beds etc and the food was gorgeous. We were very sad to leave and have had a great relaxing week and will be returning next year but will make sure it’s a little bit more in...
