Just returned from a week stay half board at this hotel & was very happy.|The hotel is a little remote, but ski bus 4 stops directly outside & it’s only a 3 minute walk down hill to the mail ski bus stop for the larger busses. The hotel is located only a few minutes drive from the ALBA lift, so no long drive to the slopes, I stayed in a single room, and although snug it served its purpose, bed was made every day, clean towels & a thermostat on the wall controlled the radiator (big enough to dry jacket & gloves & the bathroom also had a heated towel rad, there was a double wardrobe & draws = plenty of storage aswell as bedside cabinet.|You are allocated a seat in the restaurant on arrival that will have your room number on it for the duration of your stay, at breakfast your supplied with a form to fill out to select that evening’s meals (similar to if you have ever stayed in hospital) the food was a very high standard, breakfast is a self service buffet with lots of different cereals, pastries & cured meats available (scrambled eggs is the only Hot option) the Evening meal has a choice of 4 started & main options to pick from.|There is a bar area for socialising & a 400ml Larger cost €6, often free crisps/snacks were given with your drinks.|There is not much of an Apres scene locally so be aware if this is your thing, this location will not suit. I got the bus to Pera 1 evening to meet with friends (had some nice restaurants & bars) but it was a €40 taxi return that I had to wait an hour for.|The staff & friendly & helpful |There is a wellness Centre in the basement, Jacuzzi steam bath, sauna and relaxation beds, this was included in my room rate, there is a second basement where the ski storage drying room is with heated boot racks. if you’re after a lively bustling hotel in a good apres area, this is not for you, if you’re after comfort good food in a warm comfy room with views to die for from your balcony close to the slopes you...
Read moreI have stayed here twice during the winter when the hotel-chalet is run by neilson. And thoroughly enjoyed both holidays, I recommend this area and this chalet-hotel is a good option for English guests.
The location on a smaller village on the edge of the main Sellaronda circuit is great, however the hotel is a 500m walk to the lifts. Fortunately neilson include a bus pass for a bus that visits the hotel about twice an hour. (Or pay to store ski stuff in ski hire shop)
The rooms are generally in good condition, although the in room safe seemed to be broken in most rooms. The beds are quite hard, but still comfortable - the sofa can potentially be used as another bed if needed.
We did have some other maintenance issues, with a partial hot water failure one day that meant the hot tub and some showers only had cold water. This was addressed the day it was reported.
Neilsons service was quite good, with generally good 4 course meals served 5 evenings during the week. However the bar did seem quite expensive (even for a ski holiday)
Breakfasts were a bit hit and miss, they provided one kitchen cooked option every morning + 2 hot self serve options ( + standard continental breakfast options). It often felt that the hot options didn't really work together for a...
Read moreWe had an excellent stay at the Dolomites Inn with Nelson Holidays. Our room was extremely comfortable for 3 people with everything you could need although the shower head had a mind of its own and there was a lot of condensation on the bathroom window which ran down onto the shelf beneath rendering it unusable. ||The staff in the chalet hotel were great and worked very hard. The wine served with dinner was very drinkable and the food was good but it wasn’t always all served at the same time. This got better as the week progressed (it was the first of the season). Breakfast was good and set us up for the day. ||A ski bus stopped right outside the hotel which had an excellent ski room. We were able to be on the first lift from Alba each morning. The amount of skiing in the area is awesome and every day is a new adventure. ||Penia is a quiet place but charming and there is some lovely architecture. A quick walk down the road and there are a few bars and restaurants. We had a lovely meal out when it was the staff night off. ||The bar at the hotel catered to our other needs. A good afternoon tea was served there. We enjoyed use of the excellent sauna and hot tub but didn’t have the energy to make use of the...
