We have travelled (both as a couple and with our four children when they were younger) to Chiesa and stayed in La Lanterna for over 20 years, spending either Christmas week, or a late-February week skiing. For the past 5 years we have returned bringing groups of friends making up a party of about 15 people, mostly skiers. ||Gianfranco and Marisa are a fabulous couple, and Danilo (Gianfranco's brother) a superb chef who produces fresh, homemade, homely Italian meals one after the other. Three courses every evening, with seconds on offer. A good selection of wines too. Italian food is often lacking in fresh greens for me, but a brief mention of this to Gianfranco and a large bowl of fresh green salad appeared on our table every night from then on.||The rooms are generally fairly large with showers (a couple of rooms have baths but they are slightly cosier rooms!), and always spotlessly clean and fresh and airy, many with gorgeous views of the village or of the mountains.||Access to the ski bowl above Chiesa is easy as there is a minibus that runs very regularly to and from the Snow Eagle cablecar a half mile away (easily walkable if you enjoy a walk too). You can hire and store your skis and boots up in the snow bowl, so no clunking about in ski boots and carrying heavy skis and poles at the same time! So La Lanterna is well placed. In a little square with a few bars and restaurants and smaller shops... but still quiet.||The hotel itself has a large restaurant area where meals are served, an adjoining large cosy room with armchairs, a chess table, and a large tele, and a separate bar that has a split area for playing games and cards.||La Lanterna is also good value for money, as is the entire ski area of Chiesa in Valmalenco.||We love it. Our families love it. Our friends love it. ||Just booking our next trip there next February. Whoooooo. Can't...
Read moreWe have just returned from a ski holiday during February half term in Chiesa. We stayed at La Lanterna hotel. The food was absolutely amazing, we have a very picky child when it comes to food, yet she ate everything for the whole week and enjoyed it. The food was also plentiful and everyone in the restaurant was offered a second or third helping of the starters and the main at each meal time! The rooms were clean and the beds very comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners and they made all the guests feel at home and extremely welcome. There is a ski/boot store at the hotel plus a bar and a snug with a TV and games. The hotel had a very friendly atmosphere and I would...
