This is our 2nd time at Villa Scannagallo and it just gets better. First time we had 1 apt for a few days on B&B basis, this time we hired the whole villa with 24 friends & family incl kids to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. The owners made it very special, the family who grew up in the Villa still own it and you can tell how proud they are of it. You can feel the difference from a hotel, it being a family business and well cared for. We asked for a tin opener and translation was a bit of a problem so we showed a picture on the ipad. They didn't have one but before we could try and open the tin with a knife the owner had driven home and brought us one back. Upon arrival they had made 2 large cakes for us to enjoy. In advance we had organised with them a wine tasting evening at the villa followed by dinner, so people didn't have to worry about driving to a vineyard and the kids could run around. We also organised an anniversary meal at the villa. This was cooked by the family and the food just kept on coming. We had starters around the pool side then pasta, BBQ, desert, drinks and a huge cake. It was perfect. The facilities are good for all ages, wifi. Space for the kids, the pool, playground and football pitch all enclosed. Lots of chairs and tables to sit at with beautiful views, plus the hottub. I still can't get over how spacious the apartments are with large lounge/kitchen area. It meant there was always somewhere to escape to if you wanted some quite time. Each had new air con with sleep function which worked well. The pool was cleaned every night. Good communal kitchen so we took it in turns to cook for everyone, we even made use of the BBQ and pizza oven. We chose this villa because of the size, the facilities and that it was secure so the kids could run around. The only thing we were worried about was that the main entrance was directly on the road, but with the safety gates it wasn't an issue. Short drive to a large supermarket and to the shopping outlet, which also had a good playground and icecream shops. This was a relaxing week as we went out every other day, and had time by the pool relaxing every other day. The views made you want to relax. Wifi connection was good. We communicated in broken Italian and sign language. Email was easier. ||Thank you for making our stay so memorable. It was a very special and enjoyable week. We...
Read moreWe cannot rate Villa Scannagallo highly enough. We stayed for 6 nights and had a perfect stay. Antonietta was a wonderful host and we were treated like part of her family. ||||The Villa is set in beautiful gardens and in a perfect tranquil location with a lovely view over the rolling hills. We enjoyed relaxing by the Villa's lovely pool and in the hot tub. The Villa is also perfectly located to visit Tuscan hill towns as well as Siena and Florence- we had a car for these day trips. ||||Our apartment was very comfortable - it had a fully fitted kitchen and living room, shower room and lovely bedroom with a huge bed! There is wifi and a tv too. ||||Antonietta served breakfast each day on the Villa's lovely terrace- there was a great selection of meat, cheese, bread, fruits, cakes and biscuits available. Antonietta and her family could not do enough for us- they offered recommendations about places to visit, made extra dishes for breakfast and arranged for our clothes to be laundered go free. The entire villa is comprised of holiday lettings: Antonietta lives in the neighbouring village but is at the Villa every morning and evening in case you need anything. Antonietta does not speak English fluently but we managed to communicate well enough using our very limited Italian!||||In short- we cannot fault Villa Scannagallo and would highly recommend it to others. We cannot...
Read moreThis gorgeous historic villa exceeded our expectations, beautiful, atmospheric, relaxing, it has got everything you want for a Tuscan getaway. We were a party of nineteen, spread out over the various self contained apartments and joining together in a communal kitchen and large garden for eating, chilling, swimming.... The hosts, an elderly couple, speak no English, so some basic Italian is needed. They went out of their way to make our stay perfect in every way. As we celebrated 3 birthdays they cooked us a delicious meal with typical Tuscan dishes, some homegrown produce and their own wine. There was enough food for the following day! The small village a short walk away offered a convenience store, butcher and a bar where the locals gather. We loved the pizzas and local wine, and they easily accommodated our large party with no or short notice. Beware of Sunday nights when it seems to be family night and the noise level goes through the roof! Staff speak some English, but this is not a touristy place at all. Convenient for visiting many of the Tuscan sights, we travelled to Florence by train from Arezzo to avoid parking hassle. Siena and Assisi are about an hour's drive away, many local hill towns are well worth visiting. Also the local vineyard in Pozzo offers wine tasting with or without food, all excellent. Book this through the villa owners. All in...
