Casa Vacanze Santa Maria — Hotel in Montaione

We stayed here for 6 nights during a recent visit to Tuscany.|Located in a beautiful rustic area that is quiet and peaceful, about 4 km south of the town of Montaione.|It is very convenient for day trips to Florence, Sienna, Pisa, Lucca and San Gimignano.|A short car ride to the town of Castel Florentino (about 20minutes) provides you with frequent rail service to Florence and Sienna in the event that you want to avoid the headache of driving in major Italian cities. Being equidistant to all of these major cities the drive to each is between 50 minutes to hour.|There is a well stocked grocery store about 10 minutes drive away.|Our hosts were exceptionally friendly and provided us with great tips and information regarding travel to and from the major cities, parking recommendations (that were spot on) and suggestions for places to visit and restaurants and shops to dine at and pick up souvenirs.|The apartments are clean and functional but remember to take power adapters to accommodate the three pin Italian outlets for any of your electrical appliances.|There was no oven in our apartment but there was a gas stove-top and a dishwasher. There is a brick pizza oven on the property.|Though the service could be spotty at times, free wifi is also provided.|Laundry facilities are limited with one washing machine and one ironing board provided for all of the apartments.|The grounds are delightful and the shrubs and roses are lovingly tended to by the father of the two ladies who are the hosts.|Though we did not make use of it, there is a wonderful outdoor swimming pool on the property.|Communications with the hosts are facilitated through “Whatsapp” which makes contact during the day (while you are out and about) very, very handy.|I would thoroughly recommend this location for anyone visiting the Tuscany region and looking for a base while visiting the cities...

The Residence Santa Maria location and facilities is lovely and the family does work hard to make your stay pleasant. With that being said, this is a rustic european style rating, far different from the Caribbean and other popular holiday relaxing destinations. The apartments are nice and spacious enough but on the basic side and not very updated, yes the positioning of the toilets and windows to the common walking areas are interesting as other reviewers have stated .. we had some very comical moments but we chalked it all up to the authentic experience. The grounds are lovely and well maintained. The pool was always clean and available. However due to no fault of their own the mosquitoes really were severe. My family and I despite many layers of Deet spray were tormented and we were not able really to enjoy our stay or the outdoors as well as we would have liked. I know its not the custom, but screens.. complimentary spray.. citronella candles.. something to help deter the swarms would have been welcome instead of our having to go back and forth for these type of supplies. We (2 adults, 1 baby) have been looking for some accommodation when we drove through Alberi. We noticed Residencia Santa Maria by random and stopped to ask for an apartment. Owner Giuseppe opened the doors and showed us two of the free ones; we chose the one upstairs in the main building. Finally, we stayed for 7 nights (09/17) and felt quite comfortable and warmly welcomed at Santa Maria. |Like many others already mentioned, apartments are well equipped (e.g. very comfortable bed) and the garden including the pool is in best shape ... due to efforts and passion of Giuseppe, the constant gardener, thumbs up. :-)|We enjoyed having breakfast on the terrace and being RSM the hub for our visits of cities like Pisa, Siena or Firenze.|To sum up, the stay at Santa Maria paves the way for some quality family time.
