Absolutely loved it here. We only stayed for one night but wish we could have stayed here for a lot longer! When we arrived it was almost empty of guests. There were only 3 other cars parked in the car park and it was so quiet around the resort that it felt like we had the entire place to ourselves which was rather special.
We booked a double room for around €50 which was already astonishingly cheap for such a beautiful and popular place but when we arrived, we were immediately upgraded to a suite for free! We had come in mid-November on a Tuesday and due to it being off peak season, there were better rooms available than what we had booked so for no extra charge, we were upgraded to the most beautiful and spacious suite with windows everywhere and a private balcony overlooking the well kept lawn. The bathroom was large, luxurious and clean with lots of toiletries provided along with two sinks next to each other (his and hers) and a loo with a bidet opposite. It was very modern and two hairdryers were provided along with a chair in the shower which I thought was very inclusive and thoughtful of anyone that needs to sit down in the shower rather than stand. (I needed to use this chair later after having gluttonously devoured a four course dinner at their restaurant and therefore was too stuffed and fat to stand.) We had a walk-in wardrobe, living room, four poster bed with a flat screen TV in both the living room and bedroom. The windows all opened so we could have fresh air in the morning and the furniture were all wooden antiques and very, very charming. I took videos rather than pictures which I wish I could upload so you could see how cute it was!
The food and service from the waiters was fantastic. As you can see from the photos we went a bit overboard and ordered every course available along with the famous Florentine 1kg steak. Our starter was the sharing platter (pictured) of cold cut meats and cheese with bread and sauces/jams. That was really delicious because we had a selection of local meats including the seasonal wild boar. The waiters were very helpful and served us as if we were royalty.
The free breakfast far exceeded expectations. I was particularly impressed by the juicer provided for you to use so you can make your own juice. There was this big ice area with all these vegetables and fruits for you to juice and there was a decent selection of cereals, yoghurts, ready made juices, breads, pastries, hot food etc etc and the waiters make you lattes or whatever hot drink you want for no extra cost.
The resort is located in the beautiful tuscan countryside so you're surrounded by trees and mountains and there is free parking available, tennis and football courts, a swimming pool and lounge area with all these comfortable sofas next to a big roaring fire so you can get cosy if it's cold and raining (which it was for us). The land is all very well kept, they must have a fantastic groundsman because the lawn was immaculate and all the plants were well pruned and everything was very tidy.
Overall I really have no complaints and am very keen to return in the warmer months and stay for a lot longer. If I could retire here and stay here when I'm old instead of an old people's home, I...
Read moreTo begin with, this is not a 4-star property as per European, Asian or American standards. It lacks a spa, the rooms are old, with furniture that is very different to that publicized on their website. Even their toiletries are the bare minimum and not as per a picture I saw the Classic room with terrace bathroom. The bathroom door has hooks on the outside to hang the towels!
Check-in: There was a wedding on the day I arrived and as expected, there was no-one to assist in unloading my bag from the car, only two wedding hostesses manning the entrance. Dario, at reception though, was very helpful.
Room; The room I was given was super noisy. For the three nights I stayed, I woke up at night constantly due to loud banging noises and voices of other guests returning to their rooms late. I could not find a single charging point in the room. Had to remove a lamp to charge my phone. The only water in the room was chargeable (I was told not to drink water from the tap).
Food: The food at their bar/restaurant is average at best. Nothing to write home about. Maybe my expectations were too high after reading the rave reviews on google and seeing the high quality food pictures on the hotel website! I have had much better food elsewhere in Italy. But the star reviews on google for this place for food has me genuinely confused.
Room service: It seems like a last minute add-on. The phone in the room has lots of buttons for room service, concierge etc, but do not be fooled. You have to call Reception for everything. On my last night, I ordered room service from Bianca restaurant and after taking my order, even though it was only 20:30 pm, I was informed that only the all day menú would apply. Neither the staff at the reception nor the person at the bar was aware of this while taking my order.
Hotel staff worth mentioning: Daniela, at the pool and restaurant during the afternoon shift during my stay. Always greeted everyone with a smile and speedy service. Can’t say the same for most of the other staff.
Location and grounds: if you’re looking for a quiet relaxing stay, this is undoubtedly the place. The pool is the centerpiece of daytime frolic. The grounds are large with plenty of sun-beds. A few strategically placed hammocks and niche reading nooks in the grounds wouldn’t go amiss. Not much in terms of sólo activities except for the forlorn pool table in the main salon that I discovered by chance.
Lastly, but unfortunately the worst of all, I was told at the time of booking that the room rate was the same for 1 or 2 guests. No where else in the world have I experienced this. In a sense, I paid double the price for a shabby room that did not match up to...
Read moreThis is a must stay for a stop in Tuscany. Beautiful location, tremendous staff, wonderful food and ambiance. The ratio of highly qualified staff to guests makes you feel like on a cruise where you are catered to individually. Thank you Massimo for a wonderful dining experience. When arriving, you drive down a gravel road feeling a little anxious, but then it opens to a tree lined drive, leading to a lovely Villa and expansive, lush grounds. Centrally located for touring local wineries or Siena and so peaceful after spending time in major European cities.
We had been touring southern Europe for 5 weeks, mostly in large cities with the related sirens, street noise, & garbage trucks. We booked a car and decided to drive through Tuscany on our way to Rome, spending the first 3 nights here.
I injured my knee in the Cinque Terre and staff was so accommodating, letting us look at rooms closer to the dining room & pool area. Although we chose a much smaller room then what we had booked, the closeness to amenities & ability to park by the room was a life saver. Although small, the room was nicely equipped & had a large bathroom. There were a few maintenance things (sticking drawers, broken handles, etc.) that should be addressed and an umbrella or covering above the outside sitting area would be nice. Bird droppings inhibited use of the outside.
The peace & tranquility of the location was so refreshing. Even though there were many families, the lawn & pool area is so vast, they were not disturbing. The pool closes at the dinner hour (restaurant is directly behind the pool) so noise is limited after 7 pm which is very nice.
Food - excellent. I’m not sure what some of the lower reviews were expecting but service was top notch (yes, it’s a slower pace but still enjoyable) and the quality of the food was very good. I didn’t realize I had ordered the Tuscan menu our first night and it was a set menu. I can be a little picky but I tried everything & it was wonderful - even the cannelloni stuffed with wild boar. The breakfast buffet was one of the nicest I’ve seen & is included with your room. Individually cooked eggs, juicing machine with fresh fruits to choose from, yogurt, fruit, cereal, sliced meats & cheeses, smoked salmon, many types of pastries and breads and a selection of juices. A nice packaged selection of gluten free cookies & pastries as well. Of course Prosecco is available along with coffee & espresso. We ended up eating at the restaurant all three nights.
Family feel but also high quality, attentive service. A real respite for us. We...
