This campsite enjoys a truly spectacular setting, nestled beneath the towering peaks of the Dolomites and right on the shores of the beautiful Toblacher See. It’s undoubtedly a 5-star location – and the site itself has many 5-star features – but I’m giving it 4 stars overall (read on to see why). That said, I would absolutely recommend staying here if you’re exploring this stunning region. Our large, flat gravel pitch was excellent: spacious and fully serviced with electricity, water, and drainage, and we enjoyed a gorgeous view from our camper. We were located next to the site’s own Hebbo restaurant, which was generally fine (though I’ll come back to this later). Reception was friendly, welcoming, and efficient, and the shop was well-stocked with essentials, including excellent fresh bread every morning. The toilet and shower blocks were spotless – always being cleaned – and hot water was always available (albeit with a caveat below). We had a fantastic time here, both relaxing at the site and exploring the breathtaking local mountains, all easily accessible via an excellent bus service just five minutes’ walk away. So, why not 5 stars? Three small but frustrating issues took the shine off an otherwise excellent stay: 1. Showers: They’re push-button operated for hot water – not unusual – but the water only runs for 4 seconds at a time before needing to be pushed again. This was really frustrating and felt unnecessarily stingy. 2. Wi-Fi: Internet access during the day was dreadful. At night, when most people are asleep, it worked perfectly – which suggests there’s simply not enough bandwidth. In peak hours, it was often unusable. 3. “Security” Presence: A so-called security guard frequently loitered within a metre of our camper van, smoking (we don't smoke). and watching videos on speaker. He also sat in the Hebbo garden at night shouting on his phone – once at 11pm and also watching videos on his phone and using the loudspeaker. We raised this with reception, but it didn’t seem to improve. Despite these annoyances, Camping Toblacher See is still a fantastic place to stay and deserves to be on your itinerary. The location, facilities, and scenery more than make up for the issues – though I sincerely hope management takes note and resolves them soon. We also dined at both of the site restaurants Hebbo and Seeschupfe – reviews of both to follow. (Also posted to my food blog on Instagram @AbbeyKing16)

We liked this campsite for its location, close to many attractions and only 35 minutes by car from Tre Cime di Lavaredo. On the premises you’ll find a minimarket and a pizza place, and there’s another restaurant by the lake nearby. The nature around here is wonderful, with the lake in front and mountains all around. Staff were friendly, but reception closes too early (7 PM) and the Wi-Fi could be better near reception, at peak hours. The campsite clearly invested in a premium bathroom concept - spacious private cabins, a ground floor with toilets and sinks, and a first floor that looks like a deluxe wash area. Elbut every shower runs in 5-second bursts. You press the button, and for the first 2–3 seconds the water is scalding hot, it literally burns. Then you get another 2–3 seconds of usable water. That’s it. You have to press the button again and again, constantly risking being burned or left without water. Every evening I repeated this absurd ritual: press, jump back from the heat, rush to rinse, press again. It felt like my patience was being tested. And I ran out of it after 3 nights. I honestly can’t imagine a manager trying this and thinking it’s acceptable. If they have, they must enjoy making guests suffer. Another disappointment was the €2 device-charging fee at their station - unreasonable for any type of device, whether a phone or laptop. Out of 4 camping visits during our vacation, this was the only one that had this policy. Fix the shower timing and the temperature control and this place would be far more enjoyable. As it stands, the water system made an otherwise beautiful stay frustrating.

Me and my friend had the worst experience with those terrible people. Let me explain: We did Munich - Venice on bikes and one of the standard stops was Toblach. After 10 hours of biking we first went to another terrible place : Olympia camping , where they refused to take us in, although it was 22:00 and we were homeless. They said go somewhere else, so we started extremely tired, to find Toblacher See Camping in the woods (no lights, no people). When we finally arrived, we found around 8 people on the back of the restaurant smoking and chilling, went there asked them for any place just to put our tent, cause we suffered a hard trip and they said they couldn't help us, cause the reception was closed. We were begging them for 15 minutes, until a couple of nice Germans showed up and defended us. They said there was much space next to their spot. The one in charge said she would call the police, although the couple had offered us a seat for some food and water. I was asking everybody to react and do something as human to human and not abandon us in the woods with no toilets, water and light. Nobody even moved. A BMW appeared with the owner inside on the co-driver seat, a terrible bad-mannered handicapped old "lady" that was clapping the hands , as like we were mice, saying "quickly , get lost from my property, i already called the police". I had the worst feelings towards those inhuman, cruel people that saw us as a bad investment on their damned business. The police came, they asked for our documents, we told them what had happened and they suggested that we sleep in a stadium nearby that had toilets, water and it would be fine for 1 night. We immediately accepted. The Duchess in the BMW though had a different opinion on that. Not only they didn't accept us in the camping, cause we were just 2 campers with a tend for 1 night, not only they treated us with the most cruel way, not only they called the police, but they said that WE CAN'T EVEN SLEEP IN THE WOODS AND THE STADIUM, CAUSE IT WOULD HARM THEIR BUSINESS! Don't support their camping, these people deserve nothing. They see us only as potential expansion of their business kingdom, we're only numbers to them! In the end, the police escorted us until one point, as asked by the monstrous owner and they said "go wherever you want, it's fine for us". Slept next to the train station our worst night of this year. Nobody defended us, except from this kind German couple...
