Glinzhof Agriturismo — Hotel in Pustertal - Val Pusteria

The view from Glinzhof, like those throughout the Dolomites region, was magnificent. Glinzhof completely matched the expectations created by the photos on its website located as it is above the village of San Candido (Innichen) opposite the high dolomite peaks. ||||Apart from the visual experience, Glinzhof turned out to be a South Tyrol cultural experience. As the only native English speakers resident and apparently the first visitors from Australia we found the customs, food, sense of family and faith (at least, what you could pick up from a 3 night stay) different and interesting. While all this was evident from the village of San Candido and its two churches it was more fully experienced at Glinzhof. Most of the other visitors seemed to be from Germany who, as one of them told us, had come to enjoy walks in sunshine and the scenery. ||||The half board option included dinner at the Bergstube restaurant adjacent to and run by the B&B. Each night we had a three course meal of local Tyrolean dishes. A mixture of Italian including pasta, antipasto and German dishes including beef and potato stew. While there was no choice of meal this was no problem as the food was simple, fresh and full of flavour. We accompanied it with local wine or even better, the South Tyrol beer from the Puster valley on tap, Pustertaler Freiheit. A great regional beer! || ||Our hosts, Manfred and Alexia, who had the most English language, were helpful although our lack of German meant our capacity to ask more questions was limited.|| ||San Candido in the Val Pusteria hit the right note after our journey from Bolzano via Canazei and Cortina. This trip seemed as if it was across the top of the world with the craggy, snow covered dolomite peaks in early June butting up to the clouds and blue sky.|| ||Arriving in the valley the main sensation was of deep, lush 'greenness'. Coupled with the gently undulating, almost straight floor of the valley this was in contrast to the hard edged, rocky peaks the road had wound around, up and down to get there.||||Yet lifting your line of vision above the green valley floor - there were the trademark craggy dolomite peaks. Perfect! This is exactly the view you get from Glinzhof. || ||Other places of interest were Lago de Braies, a glacial lake with impossibly clear water about 25 km away and walking around San Candido and nearby Sesto along streams and through forests. Even the walk along the roads around the B&B above the village were magnificent surrounded by wildflowers, fields, forest and the view across the valley up to Mounts Baranci and Tre Scarperi (both around 3000m) behind it.|| ||Val Pusteria was a spectacular location and Glinzhof turned out to be an ideally located Agriturismo to...

We spent four days in San Candido, Italy's Dolomites region, just 4 kms from the austrian border. Words cannot describe the majesty of this place. Agriturismo Glinzhof is halfway up one of the mountains that borders the town. From our breakfast room and from our room's balcony, we could look down on the town below and see the rooftop of every single house and store. Yet the mountains across from us filled our windows. My camera couldn't possibly capture all the beauty there was too see. ||||The first a.m. we woke up and there was so much fog enveloping the town below us that to us it looked like a cotton river flowing through the valley. We watched a beautiful sunrise in a cloudless sky while the town of san candido was wrapped in fog. ||||We spent our days hiking, biking and swimming in and around San Candido. If you like the outdoors, you'll have no shortage of things to do. San Candido has a huge indoor pool filled with fountains and whirlpools and even a giant indoor waterslide. Entrance is free thanks to an agreement with the agriturismo and the pool. Bike rentals are abundant in the town, and there are literally HUNDREDS of trails to choose from, whether you want to bike, walk or hike. And of those choices, you can choose all options from easy (with families, like us) to uber-challenging, if you are an enthusiast of one of these pastimes. There is literally a limitless number of options.||||We drank water straight from the mountain streams. The agriturismo served the water in clear glass pitchers and you could hold it up to the light and see not a speck or particle of anything. The town inhabitants seem to defer to German as the language of choice, although most also speak Italian. Our experience was that most of the tourists were Germany or Austrian and spoke little English OR Italian. ||||One thing that we really appreciated (after 2 1/2 years of living in Italy) was the fact that dinners were served at 7 p.m. and everything was on time. Everything seemed to work better with a family used to American schedules. That really made our experience so much better. ||||We looked for quite awhile for agriturismi in this region that offered half-board, and this place was one of the few. Wow, did we really find a gem.||||Another exceptional issue of this place was the farm aspect of it. Nearly half of what we ate was produced right on the farm. No preservatives, no time to market, nothing. It was really a first rate agriturismo experience.||||We have stayed in dozens of Italian agriturismi. Glinzhof is in my top 3. Premetto che Alexia e la sua famiglia sono persone gentili ed ospitali, che il maso è ubicato in una posizione idilliaca, con una vista meravigliosa, e che la struttura è molto bella.||Visitando le Dolomiti da decenni ed avendo pernottato in strutture di ogni categoria (dai più umili appartamenti, garnì e gasthof ad hotel 5L), siamo un po’ in difficoltà nel collocare il Glinzhof in una categoria specifica, e per quanto il nostro soggiorno sia stato tutto sommato piacevole, non mi sento di consigliare ad altri di soggiornarvi, né ci tornerei, quantomeno non fino a quando si prenderà una decisione sulla sua “identità”: resort con prezzi da hotel 4/5 o agriturismo con campeggio in loco?|Nel primo caso, bisognerà rivedere i servizi con più staff dedicato alle pulizie, alla reception, alla sala, alla zona wellness, e maggiore varietà e qualità in cucina, dando un tocco più esclusivo alla struttura con migliori finiture; nel secondo caso, bisognerà rivedere notevolmente i prezzi, ad oggi davvero esagerati.||Ecco le nostre considerazioni:||IDENTITA’|Partiamo dal prezzo richiesto, €210/persona/notte in mezza pensione in media stagione, e dalla definizione “Mountain Natur Resort”, che porterebbero a classificare il Glinzhof come una struttura di fascia alta-molto alta. Ed in effetti anche guardando sulla carta le dotazioni della struttura, dalla piscina interna/esterna, alle varie saune e zone relax, così potrebbe sembrare.|La struttura, tuttavia, ha una seconda identità, diametralmente opposta a quella di “Mountain Natur Resort”, che è quella di “Agriturismo con campeggio”. E se la convivenza dei due concetti è parte del motivo per cui abbiamo scelto di trascorrere le nostre vacanze qui, è doveroso fare alcuni appunti su alcuni temi dove una gestione agricampeggistica di una struttura con dotazioni di lusso rendono davvero esagerato il prezzo richiesto.||PULIZIA|Nonostante il fatto che per la nostra camera ci sia stato addebitato un surplus di €30/notte per le “pulizie quotidiane straordinarie” perché viaggiavamo con un cane di piccola taglia (sul sito era indicato un prezzo di €10/notte e quando l’ho fatto presente è stato cambiato il prezzo sul sito, ma non scontata la differenza), la camera veniva a malapena riassestata: i pavimenti non sono mai stati lavati, ma soltanto occasionalmente aspirati soltanto nei punti di facile accesso, i cadaveri delle tante mosche (vengono fornite palette al check-in in quanto c’è una vera e propria infestazione dovuta alla vicinanza con la stalla) mai rimossi da pavimenti e superfici, il tavolo e il piano della cucina mai lavati (né è stato fornito uno straccio per farlo).|Anche nelle zone comuni (area relax e zona piscina) abbiamo trovato cadaveri di mosche e residui di cibo per alcuni giorni consecutivi prima che venissero rimossi, così come ogni mattina c’era spazzatura nel giardino immediatamente adiacente al terrazzo della nostra stanza, che veniva rimossa soltanto in tarda mattinata. Sotto al letto e nello spazio tra il divano e il muro della nostra stanza c’erano già polvere e oggetti caduti (pacchetti di fazzoletti) al nostro arrivo.||CUCINA/SERVIZIO|La cucina è chiusa al lunedì sera, quindi, pur pagando il prezzo della mezza pensione, al lunedì è necessario organizzarsi diversamente (la cosa è ben chiara dal sito, ma risulta piuttosto antipatica e comunque non all’altezza del prezzo, specie considerato il fatto che la struttura è a 15 min di strada in auto dal ristorante più vicino). La cucina è senza dubbio km 0, ma anche la migliore materia prima ha bisogno di essere valorizzata e in questo caso non la è: nessun problema con la cucina casareccia, ma il prezzo deve essere commisurato; non si può avere come unica scelta di secondi di una sera carne salada o caprese al prezzo di hotel 4/5* che offrono haute cuisine. Alle cameriere, senz’altro gentili, bisognava far notare tutto: l’acqua terminata, la forchetta da cambiare, l’assenza di bustine di zucchero nel recipiente, e così via.|Stesso discorso per la colazione: prodotti genuini, locali, buoni, ma varietà insufficiente per il costo, nessuna scelta calda e prodotti spesso finiti già alle 08:30 (orario colazione 8-10), senza che nessuno intervenisse per rimpinguarli se non su richiesta (successo con le uova, con il succo di mela, con lo speck, con la macedonia, e altro).||AREA PISCINA/SPA|La piscina ha una vista meravigliosa, c’è una buona varietà di saune, ma non c’è personale che gestisca la zona wellness (tra l’altro aperta anche ai campeggiatori), e di conseguenza abbondavano asciugamani lasciati sulle sdraio, giochi lasciati in piscina, e disordine. Nessuna traccia di sapone nelle docce della zona wellness, dove peraltro accedevano liberamente persone con le scarpe da uscire. Il fatto che la piscina abbia un portellone stile garage fa perdere un po' il fascino alla stessa.||ARREDAMENTO/FINITURE/ZONE COMUNI|Il look rustico e montano è sicuramente caratteristico e fa parte del fascino di questa struttura. Detto ciò, con questa richiesta di prezzo è inaccettabile che non siano disponibili lenzuola e coperte ma soltanto piumini, che i cuscini siano bassi, usurati e forniti singolarmente (1 per ospite), e che i pavimenti in parquet non siano levigati e conseguentemente sia facile prendere schegge quando si cammina con le calze (nessuna ciabatta fornita).|È insolito in una struttura di lusso dover camminare in un passaggio di meno di 1,5 metri di altezza per raggiungere la propria camera, con quadro elettrico e cavi elettrici esposti, così come i tubi di scarico. È inoltre davvero inusuale che in una struttura di nicchia vicino alle camere degli ospiti ci sia un lavandino ad uso campeggianti con stoviglie sporche e panni stesi.|Infine, anche l’arredamento esterno non era rifinito (tavolo della terrazza pieno di schegge) ed in alcuni casi pericolante (le balaustre della terrazza erano instabili e traballanti).||RECEPTION/ACCOGLIENZA|La reception è gestita unicamente dai proprietari, Manfred ed Alexia, persone estremamente disponibili, sempre reperibili (con numero di cellulare fornito via email), ma non sempre presenti.
