Zash is an extraordinary jewel in terms of both food and service, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend staying there; I'm already planning to return.|Let me deep dive into this a little. My husband and I stayed there for ten days in June 2023 - longer than the average stay, but we were looking to check out of the world and relax. And this is exactly what Zash offers. |The food is incredible, as you'd expect of a Michelin-starred restaurant. The menu offers three set meals of five to seven courses, but don't be put off: they are happy to let you mix and match between them, or simply pick fewer courses at an a la carte price. The service was impeccable, and the sommelier was extremely knowledgeable about wines: he was also smart in assessing budget requirements and matching that to your preferences.|The complimentary breakfast was amazing, too: fresh pastries and savories every day, plus eggs, pancakes, etc. as requested, and the staff could not have been more thoughtful or attentive. |Other reviewers mentioned the railway line near the hotel, and I was a bit alarmed when I read this having already booked, but I needn't have worried: it was more of a low rumble in the distance (I thought it was thunder at first) and the trains are very short so although frequent, it never lasted long. I wasn't once woken by trains at night or during my siesta, but those who are very light sleepers might want to invest in a "white noise" phone app, though I don't think you'll need it.|Our room (a garden room very close to the main building) was wonderful and clean, and I loved the glass box shower (though we didn't really need two separate ones!) The only negative was the bed. Although it was a king and beautifully clean, the mattress was a bit of a nightmare. Admittedly I'm used to a Tempurpedic memory foam mattress, but this was sprung and I felt every single spring. Didn't sleep well, and very painful when I got up in the morning, but those less sensitive probably won't mind.|As for the overall look and feel of the place, you won't find more beautiful gardens, and the pool was gorgeous. The double sunbed sofas were very comfortable (I should have slept on them at night!) though I'd say they were just starting to look a bit tired and one or two had small rips. |I suspect Zash is just recovering after the trauma of the Covid pandemic, so I'd cut it a little slack, but a bit of low-level investment is probably due by next season.|Finally, the location. Zash is off the beaten track, and frankly in a rather poor area. I never felt this was a safety issue, but the amount of trash thrown by the roadside was shocking, and a bit smelly when you had the car windows down. And yes, you definitely need a car if you want to go anywhere - nothing is in walking distance, but there are plenty of taxis.|As for day trips, I'd recommend Taormino (a mountain-top town half an hour's drive away) - though it's pretty touristy, it's definitely worth a trip. The second season of White Lotus was shot there, FYI. And of course, Mt. Etna - it was smoking when we visited,...
Read morePrior coming to Zash, we stayed at a beautiful hotel on the other side of Sicily. At Zash, we had booked a blend room (stated on the website 30m2, with pictures of beautiful rooms). When we arrived at noon we were told that our room was not going to be ready until 15. We hung out at a nearby town for a few hours and then arrived to our room. The room was not nice at all, nothing like the pictures. A tiny room with a tv that was loopsided and a huge window with sun gazing in throughout the day. The curtains did nothing to keep the sunlight out during the morning and it got hot. Even worse, there are traintracks right next to the hotel and the first train went by at 5PM, and then aprox. every 30min, keeping me awake. The next morning I went to complain about the train situation to reception, because we were staying for another 3 nights and it was unbearable. The reception worker was rude and defensive but managed to move us to another room. We also got to use the spa as compensation. Another problem was the breakfast. The breakfast is served to the table on a tray and it consists of sweet pastrys, different jams, rolls and yoghurt. Then you can order eggs on the side (that are completely saltless). As a scandinavian, we are not used to eating sweet things for breakfast. So the first morning I asked if I could have some ham and cheese on the side as well. This was then brought to us by a rude male server who told us that he hopes that we enjoy our lunch. We also ate the tasting menu at the Michelin restaurant, which was nice but nothing mindblowing. The pool area and gardens are beautiful and the service at the pool bar was great! Otherwise I would recommend to find another place to stay, there are so many amazing...
Read moreWe spent 2 nights here in June 2022. We had a standard Room and Dinner in the Michelin Star Restaurant both nights.
Ammenities The Hotel is small and somewhat in the middle of nowhere enclosed in an orange farm which we did find very relaxing and pleasant.
We did not go to the beach during our stay here but it seems to be only reachable by car (Bikes can be borrowed for free)
Pool Area was really fancy and very nice to hang out (Did not spend to much time there)
The Hotel does have a Spa area (20€ extra entrance fee which seems a little unreasonable if you already have an expensive room)
The Room (as most of the Hotel) was very Design-ish which does look very nice but is not always thought through all the way (eg Door knob of the bathroom hard to open and easy to pinch your fingers, wobbly tv stand ...) All in all great
There is a Train line directly behind the Hotel which has approx 1 Train / Hour if you are very sensitive to Sound ask for a room with a garden view
The Restaurant was as expected 1 Michelin Star well deserved but it would need a little extra for a 2nd Price (110-140€ for the menu is ok for the igredients and quality) Wine recommendations are also good. Service is very friendly but sometimes quite slow mostly because they get stuck on some tables just talking.
Breakfast was also quite good for south of italy. Bread seems to be made on the evening before which is a little less quality than the bread from dinner and you get served a big tray which is quite wastefull i personally would prefer them to come with a waggon and i just pick what i need.
All in all a...
