La Filanda — Hotel in Uggiano la Chiesa

From the beginning to the end of our holiday everything was simply perfect. We spent 12 days in the biggest room of the Filanda, which has space enough for two adults and two kids. The room is furbished with essential but stylish designed furniture and a spectacular red-brick madr ceiling which dates World War II. |Every corner was spottless, immaculate and fresh, despite the warm temperature outside. Breakfast is delicious, with great coffee, fresh fruits on our table and home-made cakes, including the popular Pasticciotto. |We can’t thank enough Irene, the guest and owner of the Filanda, who is the sweetest and kindest host we have ever met. You are simply the best! She is always on time, professional, patient and eager to share advice with her clients. Thanks to her we did a wonderful boat trip with a tour operator named Hydra. She also recommended excellent masserie and restaurants for dinner and wonderful beaches. |Be aware that Filanda is not a masseria, there are no swimming pools, spa, bar or restaurant inside the property. Filanda’ strentghness rather resides in the simplicity and the elegance of this ancient building, meticolously renovated by Irene’s husband, a renowned architect in Apulia. We want to close saying that to fully enjoy the experience you need to rent a car. Filanda is located in Casamassella, 10 km from Otranto. It is a strategic place non only to visit the breath-taking coast, but also to enjoy the true Salento, which consists in small and lovely towns surrended by olive trees, like Scorrano. E' un luogo dell'anima, oltre ad essere un'affascinante dimora creativa ed elegante, in cui si respira arte, creatività, storia e affettuosità. Irene e Roberto che hanno creato e gestiscono la Filanda ci hanno introdotto alle tradizioni del posto, ai sapori della cucina tipica e genuina e alla cordialità degli abitanti del luogo. E' stata per me e Alessandro come una esperienza di approdo rigenerante.||Tutto questo traspare anche dalla scelta e dal gusto negli arredamenti che esprimono oltre la bellezza, il confort e il design anche le vicende legate al luogo, in una continua tessitura che attraverso le scelte di Roberto e i sapori di Irene tengono insieme il passato senza mai dimenticare il futuro. ||Due arazzi scelti da Roberto racchiudono, a mio avviso, l’esperienza alla Filanda. Un primo arazzo, presente non a caso nella sala da pranzo, racchiude la sensazione di essere tenuti, accolti e nutriti non solo dal sapore dei cibi locali, dalla colazione di Irene e dalla cura con cui sceglie i suoi ingredienti, ma anche dai racconti di Roberto, dall’amore per la Filanda, dalla creatività e dal gusto della sua professionalità. Le braccia raffigurate nell’arazzo creato da Vincenzo D’Alba accolgono e nutrono quasi a rievocare l’esperienza antica e primordiale dell’essere tutt’uno con l’altro. Sarà solo un caso che le stoffe provengono dalla madre di Roberto, antica filandera del luogo?||Al momento di partire certo dispiace lasciare un luogo così rigenerante, ma ci si accorge di essere stati nutriti proprio al momento di andare via. Di quel nutrimento fatto di bellezza che rimane dentro e riaccende la propria voglia di mettersi in cammino. Come se sparite le braccia cullanti si scoprisse che sono spuntate le gambe per continuare ad esplorare questa terra preziosa o semplicemente per ritornare a casa rigenerati da dentro. ||Sarà solo un caso che per la prima volta scrivo una recensione? ||Un abbraccio a Irene e Roberto da Loredana...

Totally enjoyed the stay. Brand new, very stylish design, spacious room and bathroom. Plenty of light. Fantastically friendly and helpful owners! Fresh home baked cakes for breakfast every morning! Very easily accessible, 10 minute drive from Otranto, so no need to drive far in search for a place to dine out. Nice beach at Torre dell'Orso is also about 15 min away by car.
