We took Subashiri trail (ideal for nature lovers) to the Seto-kan hut for an overnight stay (with paid dinner and breakfast). The host was so friendly and welcoming and the facility was very clean including the bathroom, no smell or mess (reading other reviews, it’s not always the case for other huts). We arrived around 7pm, which is the later end for dinner, we still caught the day light for a few minutes, but perhaps not a good idea coming later than that. The dinner was basic but felt so delicious and filling, I left a clean plate (rice with a bit of chicken and potato curry, cabbage salad, and water). We had unlimited water and bathroom use (because we booked the night stay and meals, otherwise it is paid for those who pass by). The host had a handheld translation device - quite effective for communication in any language for basic needs. At 2700 m we did not have altitude sickness and slept quite well. Views were amazing, as you will be above the clouds (if weather cooperates). The host woke us up around 4:00-4:15am for the sunrise, such a serene experience, I did not want to leave. We were given a dry breakfast package the night before (two pastry buns - one with poppy seed and one with caramel or some jam - and a hot dog-ish stick, so we had breakfast with us no matter what time we planned to leave, which I thought was a good idea. We had unlimited tea in the morning for quite a few hours. We had to vacate our bed spot by 8:30am for it to be cleaned, but we were welcome to hang out in the hut and use the tea and facility for as long as we needed (I believe until 3pm, but we left before noon anyway). I highly recommend the Setokan hut. Thank you for hosting and...

Read moreThe hut is located at a great altitude to acclimatise to the mountain. It is approximately 4.5hr from the top. The view from the hut is beautiful.
The owner was very friendly and welcoming. They have a translation device to make it easier to communicate with them. Everything you needed was provided. The small rooms were clean and very comfortable to sleep in and the hut is maintained at a good temperature.
We were a little unlucky with our sleep. As that evening there were many ‘night’ climbers who made a lot of noise outside and kept shining their torch into the window. We were disturbed a lot from 11pm onwards. - I recommend future visitors to bring an eye mask and ear plugs. Because of this we departed a little earlier whilst it was dark, and enjoyed the sunrise from higher up in...
