Located in the mountains close to Fukushima city, this well maintained a bit older medium sized ryokan onsen was excellent! (It is actually 150m from another popular oneâŠbut Hige no ie is not to be missed!!). The building itself looks nothing special, but it is facing a ravine where a river flows underneath. We had a room facing that ravine and could see the river descending towards the city. Charming! We had a traditional tatami room and while it was cold during our stay, with a good heater and a few extra blankets we were warm during the night! There is one private outdoor bath (first come first served, with a sign you turn « free/ taken » in front of the door leading to the bath). It is rather simple, but very nice: the view is great, with the rooftop where the snow piles up and the other side of the ravine. Water temperature was just right (hot! But not too much). They have also a common menâs and a womenâs baths, one of them having an outdoor part which is also very cute. âšâšThe 2nd important and excellent part was the meals. True Kaisei cuisine with multiple absolutely delicious dishes, both for dinner and breakfast. Service was impeccable, in one of their multiple small dining rooms (4 tables each): it seemed the staff was always anticipating your needs, the service of the dishes was well timed. They also have a very good selection of Fukushima sakes! There is a folder in your room showcasing the sakes they have, you can do some homework before dinner time make your picks, but they have some award winning ones at reasonable prices! I particularily liked the Hanaizumi and the Daishichi âŠDo endulge! Oh they also have unlimited coffee/ hot chocolate/ tea in the lunge next to the reception.
