stayed for 1n when passing through. the establishment is slightly lynch-esque with long corridors with not too many people, aura of long gone prestige, cigarette smell and dirty carpets in the rooms. gender-segregated outdoor hot springs are nice but somewhat basic, with leafy forest view. there's another outdoor pool by the river. the cleaning of that pool hadn't been exactly thorough and thus it wasn't the most inviting. the village is very small, not much to see in walking distance. food at the restaurant was formally qualified as kaiseki dinner, but quality was average. lobby smelled like cigarettes, as it was smoking allowed. room smelled too, but not as much as the lobby. having said all this, it was quite an interesting experience to stay in a place like this. front desk staff spoke no english, which was perhaps the reason what at the outset looked like a blatant lie: "cash only". luckily they could also produce a...

Read moreMy friend and I spent a night here during a cycling trip through Hokkaido. I think this was by far the best accommodation during our trip, with a very nice and spacious Japanese room, great onsens (including a mixed one), incredible food (yes, the food in Hokkaido is usually amazing, but this one was beyond that!), and best quality/price ratio ever. Very good location too, and in the area there are loads of activities for nature lovers including some very nice walking/hiking paths through the forest. I'm looking forward to go...
