One of the best ryokan experiences I’ve had in nearly 8 years of living in Japan! Yes it’s small and unassuming, but that only adds to its charm. The rooms are clean and unpretentious and during check in you’re able to customize your stay in terms of when you’d like meals and what kind of yukata you’d like (you can choose from different designs). The onsen is small but clean and had 4 different temperatures of bath including the outdoor bath. This was all lovely but what really set this ryokan apart from others for me is the lengths that the staff went to make sure that my friends and I were accommodated for! I travelled with 2 friends who were visiting from England and follow a vegan diet (vegetarian when traveling) and whilst they had booked a vegetarian meal online, there must have been a miscommunication somewhere along the line; during check in we clarified that they were unable to eat meat, fish and shellfish but were happy to eat cheese, eggs and dashi (broth). Considering we checked in about 5pm and dinner was being served at 6pm I imagine that a lot of the food had already been prepared, despite this the staff were AMAZING and really went above and beyond to make sure that my friend’s needs were met and that they didn’t miss out on the ‘kaiseki’ experience. I know that this solution wouldn’t work for everyone but in our case it did and we were blow away; for anyone who has tried to alter a meal in Japan they can likely tell you how difficult it can be! A truly memorable experience for all the right reasons. If you are considering staying here and have dietary requirements it might be worth emailing ahead to clarify exactly what you can and can’t eat and whether they can accommodate that. Overall I would happily stay again and will remember the trip for many...
Read moreThis was a disappointing experience for us, the room we had was a really basic twin room, the kaiseki dinner was very average compared to other ryokans we have stayed at and the onsen (common one) was rather small and crowded (as they are also open to the public). The private onsen was better but could only be booked once, otherwise it would be chargeable. For the price we paid and extra for a premium meal, we were really disappointed. On the good side, the staff were friendly and service was quite good. Note that they do not speak English, hence there is a heavy reliance on Google Translate, which sometimes doesn't translate...
Read moreI went there with my friends for one day. The staff didn't speak english, but were very friendly and motivated to assist us and explain everything. Our room was clean, spacios and traditional, we even got to wear Samue during our stay. The food (Kaiseki) was good and definetly something you should try out if you visit. The Onsen was relaxing and not too full. The hotel itself was a bit remote, but sightseeing wasn't what we came for anyways. They even offered to drive us to the station, so that wasn't a problem. Overall a good place I would recommend if you want to enjoy traditional japanese...
