KARUIZAWA CAMP GOLD — Hotel in Karuizawa

Beware of this place! The campsite is nice and spacious, but the staff/owner is very rude!! I and my partner came back to the camp an hour late for check out because we went to central Karuizawa and got stuck in traffic due to peak season. When we were heading back, we already saw him from afar, walking towards our car, looking like he was going to attack us. I rushed to get off the car and said, “gomenasai” for being late and handed him the extra charge for late check out, but I was so surprised to see that he was fuming with anger! He was scolding us as if we were kids, and told us that we should’ve paid extra in advance if we knew that we were coming back late. Nobody told us any rules when we got there except about the parking area. Had we known, we would’ve definitely paid because it’s only 500¥ per person anyway. But, he didn’t want to accept our money nor our apology. He just said, “rules are rules!!!” I told him that we couldn’t turn back time and that nothing would happen if we’d just dwell on the problem rather than solving it. But, he crossed his arms and insisted that we should’ve followed the rules. At this point, we got into a heated argument already. We kept asking him what he wanted us to do instead to resolve the problem… Should we clean the whole campsite as punishment? Should we kneel before him? But he just kept saying “i don’t need your money! Rules are rules!” over and over again… It was very frustrating! He even said “i don’t need money! NEVER COME BACK HERE!” It’s such a traumatizing experience!! I’m sure if it was Japanese people, he wouldn’t even care! Even the night before, he kept following us around the camp and looking at us as if we were doing something wrong… we felt so uneasy! why was he like that? Because we’re foreigners??? If he can’t trust any foreigners, he should just ban all foreign visitors and only accept Japanese guests!

The worst part is, after we walked out and started packing our stuff, he then tattled to other guests who were there! We felt pathetic because we can’t speak Japanese fluently so we couldn’t explain our side and defend ourselves from whatever he was telling them. I took a video of it but to protect the privacy of other guests, i’m only sharing a screenshot. In this screenshot, you can even see that he was pointing at us while telling them the story…

We’ll absolutely never come back to this place!...

グランピングサイトを二泊三日で利用しました。

他の方も記載されている通り、ブレーカーが遮断（落ちる）こともなく、管理の方々も親切丁寧で、とても満足のいくキャンプ場でした。 さらに無料Wi-Fi（テント内では若干電波強度弱目で10〜50Mbps）も利用でき、便利すぎてキャンプしていることを忘れそう。モンハン、スプラ出来ますよ。アマプラも普通に観れます。

ブレーカー容量は10Aで1000Wまで利用できます。 コンセント口は、テント外（雨の影響を受けないタープ内に２口）、電源ケーブルを分岐してテント内にもテント内結露緩和用小型扇風機向けに電源が引き込まれており、タコ脚コネクターとなっていますので他の家電が利用できます。 当方は、テント内でマキタのポータブル冷蔵庫（80W）、ジャックリーのポータブル電源（設定変更して充電時消費電力300W前後に調整）を常時接続して利用してましたが、遮断されることはありませんでした。 持参した家電の配置を気にされる方は、屋内用で構わないので延長タップを持参しても良いかと思います。 ＊＊＊テント内のコンセント、タープ内のコンセント、いずれも同じブレーカー（10Aで1000Wまで）なので、同時に接続する際は、ブレーカー容量を超えないよう注意が必要です＊＊＊

管理の方々には、細やかな心配りをされていると感じました。 皆さん、話しかければ気持ちの良い受け答えをして頂けますし、当方がとある失態で絶叫してしまった時も、わざわざ駆け付けて頂きお声がけを頂きました。 悪い評価にあるような方はおりません。 こんなシッカリとした対応を行なって頂ける方々を貶めるような評価をされる人の人間性を疑います。人のいない場所でヒッソリと一人で周りに迷惑をかけず過ごしてもらいたいものです。

管理の方々とは対照的に、客の方で残念な人達がいました。 22時を過ぎたあたりに、ルールに則り周りに配慮した大きさで知人と会話をしていたところ、うるさいとの苦情をテント越しに言われました。 決して騒いでいたのではなく、配慮した大きさでです。 この方々（60歳代？夫婦）のうちの旦那の方かと思いますが、一方的に注意してきました。 その後もその夫婦は何度か当方の泊まっているテントの近くまで来て様子を伺うような行動（会話して）をとっていました。テント越しに聞こえてくるヒソヒソ話は気分悪く、煩くなくとも気持ち悪かったです。 いくら自分たちが22時に寝るからと他人の時間まで強要するような言動は許せません。 朝は7時に、まだ他のキャンパーさん達も起きていない静かな状況で、大きなエンジン音を立てて帰って行きました。 私は、このエンジン音で飛び起きてしまいました。テントサイトの配置上、当方のテントのすぐ真横に隣の車が置かれるので、響くエンジン音は洒落になりません。 車種は、ジープラングラーの黒で熊谷ナンバーです。 夜に苦情を言っておきながら、帰る時は配慮の微塵も無い。 こんな自分勝手な人間は、他の人達がいるキャンプサイトを利用すべきでは無いです。 今後もコチラのキャンプ場は利用しようと思っていますが、同じ車を見かけたら、いつでも反撃できるように備えておこうと思います！

今後、このキャンプ場を利用される方へ、以下にアドバイスさせて頂きます。

・虫について（要注意） 蛾も少なく、蚊はいない（刺されなかった）のですが、代わりにハエが物凄く多いです（10匹前後）。 蚊取り線香数本をテント周りに領域展開しても無意味でした。（ま、蚊取り線香ですからハエには効きませんよね） 急遽、近くのホームセンターで殺虫剤とハエ叩きを買い対処しました。 ご自宅でなされているハエ対策が活きると思いますよ。 ちなみに当方は、食事（特に夜）はテント内で取りました。 屋外なんで、虫がいるのは当たり前。評価の対象にはならないと思いますが、虫が嫌なら冬に利用するか、我慢できなければキャンプ事態しない方がいいと思いますよ。

・照明について タープ側には備え付け照明がありますが、テント内はランタンが必要になります。 当方は、管理棟にて２つお借りしましたが、結果的には持参したものも利用しています。一応持参しておいた方がいいと思います。

・空調について 当方利用した8月は当然ながら暑いです。 テントも高機能なものではありますが、直射日光の当たるロケーションであるため、日中のテント内は耐え難い暑さになります。 上記にも記載しましたが、備え付け小型扇風機が1台天井方向に向けて設置されておりますが、恐らくテント内結露対策（空気循環用）のものとなるかと思います。 別途、自宅で利用している扇風機もしくはポータブルクーラーを持参することを推奨します。 逆に夜は過ごし易いです。雨が降ると寒いくらいになるかも（2日目夜の雨の際は23℃でジャージの上着を着て寝ました）。尚、標準で小型ヒーターがテント内に備えられています。

・焚き火について 直火禁止となります。グランピングサイトについては、スペースも限られますので、ソロ用の小さいものが限度かと思います。 隣との距離も近いので、場合によっては煙で苦情があるかもしれません。当方は宿泊初日の隣がいない時に行いましたが、結構風向きが変わるのが分かったため、隣の利用者が来た二日目は配慮して行いませんでした。

・現地買い物について 管理棟で売られているもの以外で必要な買い物がある場合は、近場にホームセンターでケーヨーD2（キャンプ道具の品揃え豊富！）、食料品としてはTSURUYA（品揃え豊富で結構安い）があります。他にも色々ありますので困ることはないでしょう。

キャンプ場良し、周辺環境良し、素晴らしい場所だと思...

One of the best camping sites in Japan. Extremely clean site with hot showers with plenty of rooms. There is a stream that crosses the camp site which make a good atmosphere. Also, a there is huge supermarket about 10min walk from the site, making it easy to access fresh Karuizawa vegetables and meat. Owner is really nice and offers good tips about using the site. Its newly renovated in April so super good conditions. I would recommend to anyone camping in Karuizawa. If I were to really pick one downside is that its a bit far away from public transport. But, its also a good point as it is far away from the city...
