This place is AMAZING. We did the 3-story rental, and it felt so unique and magical.
I read a review somewhere that there isn't heat. There were those little heating/cooling units attached on the main and top levels, and we were able to heat our room that way.
There isn't room to rest on the main level; it's a kitchen, bathroom, and table, and that's most of the space. The beds are on the second level, which you can use the built-in ladder or the outdoor stairs for. And our unit was at the top of a path. So if you have a lot of mobility issues, this might not be your ideal rental. If you don't have mobility issues, it felt like being a kid again.
The main building is beautiful. I knew right away we'd be using that free pass for rentals privilege, and we absolutely did. It was SO peaceful to enjoy watching the birds, flipping through books, and admiring the antiques with a warm drink.
The fire pit area is at the base of the property, and it's somehow so quiet and peaceful considering it's right off the road. It feels like a real campfire. The only thing is, we brought beef and veges and s'mores makings to cook on it, and we were woefully unprepared. They were so gracious and loaned us a few things to make our meals turn out. I'm so grateful! This was in our top 3 meals in Japan. But I'd bring a pan of some kind and seasonings if I did it again!
There's also a little kitchen with a microwave and induction stove as advertised!
The area is great. Mt. Rokko is just fabulously gorgeous. We spent all day walking around Mt Rokko and felt like we could've spent the rest of the century there. The woods are just so beautiful, and there's so many views of Kobe and the ocean. You can even see the larger ships going about their days.
Finally, the people running this place are just magnificent people. I did not speak enough Japanese to carry a conversation or fully communicate some of our questions. They spoke way better English than I did Japanese. And they made me feel successful! We were able to answer all our questions and get over every hurdle, and they really went above and beyond to make sure we had a wonderful time. And we did.
They really made a point and effort to make us feel welcome, and that meant so much to us.
We stayed at the end of March, and we're still talking about what a really special experience this was 3 months later. I hope we get to see this...
Read moreThe accommodation was exceptionally close, just a one-minute walk from the Rokko Mountain ropeway. The room was equipped with kitchen facilities, so I am considering purchasing ingredients and preparing meals myself during my next stay. Although meals were available in the main building, they were prepared using frozen ingredients. Nevertheless, I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious they were, perhaps this reflects the renowned quality of Japanese standards !?
The main building also featured a café space, where I was able to spend a relaxing and peaceful time. I especially appreciated the traditional Japanese atmosphere it offered. Enjoying a cup of coffee while basking in the sunlight filtering through the trees was truly a...
Read moreI loved everything about this place, we booked 3 nights but decided to spend an extra one since we were so comfortable, great to relax in the woods and great to go for a hike/ run/bike ride. A minute walk away from the station, from here you can easily go to Kobe and arima onsen. The host was also great and a very warm person. Also loved the design of our cabin and the projector. One of the best places I’ve stayed...
