This is a 10-15min taxi ride from Oita airport (around ¥1,500 if I remember rightly). It struck me as an out of season tourist hotel for Japanese tourists. There is an outdoor pool, but no one seemed to be using it, not really the weather. To be fair it was 22:00ish when we arrived, but checkin was painless. The room was traditional tatami matting and bedding on the floor. There is an on-suite toilet and wash basin, but to shower you have to go to the communal Onsen (floor 2 i think). Red is for women, Blue for men - I guessed, correctly as it turned out. Not totally sure of the protocol, but if you intend entering the pool, shower before hand! Everyone goes 100% naked, no room for modesty here.||Breakfast was interesting, using an app on my phone I asked if there was anything vegetarian. I was told it could be arranged but would take some time. Indeed a tray of 100% vegetarian food arrived from a waitress who couldn't have been more helpful. As the hotel is a way from the airport, and the airport itself 1hour+ from Oita city, the hotel arranged a taxi to the airport. We then got an efficient bus to Oita city centre.||Like all the hotels during this trip (Sept/Oct 2019) the bathroom was small, modular but came equipped with a range of complimentary toiletries, razors, tooth brush etc. The shower was powerful and there were plenty of towels. Everything was...
Read moreFirst, they write the hotel name as Baygrand - one word, so the search engines sometimes miss it.||||The area is a bit isolated. I chose it because I was flying out of the Oita Airport the next day. The only other people staying at the hotel appeared to be part of a tourist group.||||If you want to eat there, you must sign up for the meal options when you make your reservations, otherwise you cannot dine there. There are no restaurants within walking distance.||||The rooms are well furnished, I had a suite with 2 beds, a chair and sofa, a separate tea room and a nice view of the ocean.||||Overall the place appears to be run down. It was the second week of September and the swimming pools were green, so I do not know if they were in service this year.||||On the other hand, the indoor onsen was very nice and the robes and shoes they provide are of high quality.||||The staff was extremely nice and while they did not speak English, they used electronic translators to speak with me. The manger and staff were the best...
Read moreWe've never stayed at this hotel, but we visited there a few times for a swim & a quick drink. ||||Swimming Pool (Open for visitors during Summer season)||We went for a swim at their pool during the summer. It only costs JPY200 for Children, and JPY300 for Adults (as of Aug 2011). There are two pools. A big wading pool with two slides, and a big pool about 1.8m depth & approx 20m long. ||||At the pool side, they served Kaki Goori (Shaved Ice) JPY250, hot food (French Fries, Chicken Nuggets etc), Soft drinks. I don't believe they sell alcohol there. ||||Cafe:||There is a spacious cafe at the ground floor. Looking out the back of hotel, and it's good place to chill in Kunisaki. Also, there is a vending machine with hot & cold drinks. For the people who don't want to spend lots of money, this is a good option to...
