My first week in Kyoto was made a whole lot better during my stay, a gorgeous scenic view encapsulates the entirety of the beach house. The forest grown mountains compliment the sea, as you gaze into the mix you feel a serene sense of belonging as the ocean clashes with the sand you get to experience what other places could never give you, a beach all to yourself. The rooms them selves were pleasant, and neatly arranged. After a day at the beach and enjoying the views I fell into bed I immediately passed out due to the tranquility of it all. The commute from the station into town is great, as you can see a lot of farms and more greenery around and the train itself is small and an experience in itself. Once in the city of Maizuru I recommend walking to the Takao Onsen Hikari-no-yu. It’s about a 2.5km to the Onsen. Paddle boarding! they got that and i’ve had so much fun learning how to paddle board and just going around on the beach I definitely recommend you try it during your stay. Ask Marie about the Buddist temple near buy and she would be happy to guide you there and translate everything. They are very welcoming and kind, they said we are more then welcome to come any time we want. They gave us green tea and nice treats and we were able to do zen zen meditation with them. Overall I had a great time and experienced so much here in such little time, it’s...

Right on the beach in a quiet part of Kyoto. You'll be met with 5 traditional rooms with a shared living area and bathroom. Whilst the rooms are traditionally minimalistic the air-conditioning is cold and they are impeccably clean, as are the showers and toilets.
The communal space is where it comes together with a well equipped kitchen and dining area. Guests from the 5 rooms and 2 camping spots share this space and even though fully booked during our stay it was no problems with use and everyone worked together.
The outdoor area results in another lovely sitting and shared space with tables and chairs and hammocks etc. If that's not your thing walk 7.5 seconds and you're on what feels like a private beach but with all the entertainment of fishermen, surfers, sup boards and boats and ships passing by from the nearby port.
Marie the host speaks perfect English and Japanese and will go out of her way to make your stay enjoyable. As it's a fairly rural location, dining out options are very limited if you don't have access to a car so make sure you bring supplies to make use of the shared kitchen (a large fridge/freezer is also provided to share.
So don't hesitate, pack the car or stock up at the supermarket and grab the train and check this one out away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Read moreThis place was incredible and the stay we had here was quite possibly one of my favourite memories from my time in Japan. Me and 9 other exchange students from a university in Kyoto stayed here July 2023 for a weekend trip and it was lovely. The owner was incredibly accommodating, helping us with food, cooking and even showed us all of the great spots to go to. The beach and ocean was the cleanest I’ve ever seen and the water was crystal clear. I spent all day in the water. The house was perfect, with everything you need, and very clear instructions/rules which were very manageable. More traditional in style with sliding doors and tatami floors which added to the charm. Location is definitely easier to get to if you have a vehicle but we managed to get there by transit and on foot (pack light for this method). There is a chain convenience store around 40 mins away by foot, and a very small locally owned one near by so be prepared if that is the decision you make lol. Overall I cannot recommend this place enough! The location, the owner, the building, everything, it was...
