I would have give this place 5 stars if it wasn't for a few things I didn't like , first of all the service was amazing the staff members treated us really well and they were very friendly, the location was amazing , from our room we could see the bridge and the ocean, breakfast and lunch were really well prepared and tasty , I liked the french/Japanese dinner fusion and the Japanese breakfast was also really good and we left the restaurant really satisfied but one of the things that I didn't like was that at night time they make the customers pay 2000 yen (each) to use the swimming pool , I find it ridiculous considering that the hotel is already pricey so in my opinion the swimming pool should be free at night time. I also didn't like that they made us eat dinner at 20:00pm but on the website dinner starts at 17:30pm or 19:00pm , they clearly made a mistake and realized that they had the restaurant fully booked for those times so they quietly moved our dinner to 20:00pm, that spoiled our dinner a little because my kids were very tired and fell asleep in the middle of our dinner, they never apologized or explained anything about it and that made it worse, one more thing put this is just me (nit picking) in each room they have TV's but the TV's are not smart and don't have YouTube or any other applicantion that the customer can use , I don't think it extremely necessary but if you have kids you know that it's handy for them to watch Netflix or YouTube on TV while you take a shower or take a rest or do something else, Besides my complains I did enjoy the place quite a lot but I think there's room for...
Read moreI first went to Hotel Anaga more than 25 years ago! It is feeling its age a little bit thee days, but is still a very fine place to eat and stay. The setting is lovely, on a bay with views across the water to the bridge that connects Awaji with Tokushima, where whirlpools often form. There is no beach, but there is a big pool, open only during the summer.
Some of the rooms have been refurbished in the main hotel and they are very nice indeed. I stayed in one of the 'villas' where you can stay with a dog. They have not been refurbished and are feeling a bit tired. However, the villas are very spacious and have lovely views.
The French restaurant on site is excellent, with multicourse menus and very good cooking. Local produce features extensively and the choices change regularly with the seasons. Onions will feature throughout the year, as the onions from Awaji are famous throughout Japan. Service is quite formal but very good and some staff speak English.
The hotel used to be part of the Relais et Chateaux group, but isn't anymore. I don't know, but suspect the Anaga was dropped as its feeling a bit tired in places these days. I hope the hotel survives as it remains a great place to stay in a relatively unknown part of Japan. When I arrived the hotel car park was full of Ferraris and Lamborghinis whose owners had met up there for lunch. That tells you something about...
Read moreThe hotel is located in the southwestern area of the Awaji Island with a panoramic view of the Naruto straits from the rooms and from the "Gifts of the Sea" restaurant. We savoured a delicious, gastronomic dinner in the "Gifts of the Sea", a menu breakfast selection is also served in this restaurant.||||All bathroom amenities were provided. The only problem was that the towel rack was in the shower and bath cell and therefore the towels could not dry out.||||We arrived at JR Naruto station (on Shikoku) where we were welcomed by the driver from the hotel limousine for our transfer to the hotel (about 25 minutes by car). Crossing the O-Naruto bridge we could see the waves of the Naruto whirlpools. ||||Service was perfect. There are two ladies at the reception, who speak English and they interpret whenever necessary. It was the perfect hotel for us to relax before we continued our...
