We were at Alpen Blick for a ski trip and had a wonderful stay there. ||Pros (so many!) |Location: Excellent, ski in ski out, 15-minute walk to restaurants and just 10 minutes by car from Myoko Kogen station. ||Facility: The room was very generous in size and spotless, with top notch toiletries. There were two onsens - one indoor and one outdoor (though the view was obsured by a screen in winter). ||Amenities: The toiletries in the room were top notch. There was not just a hair dryer but a hair iron. |Alpenblick has a brewery onsite and stocks its minibar with beer bottles, for free! This is so uncommon we didn't realise it till day of check out. ||Ski: We rented the skis, poles, helmets, ski outfit. They were clean and in excellent condition. ||Service: The service was excellent. Shuttle buses run from 8 am-4pm between the resort and the station and nearby eateries. ||The star was Katori at the front desk, who really went above and beyond for guests. He was one of the few English-speaking staff at AlpenBlick and went out of his way to serve us, even calling a restaurant in Tokyo to make a reservation for us because we spoke no Japanese. That is hospitality at its finest. ||Cons: |If I had to name a con (and it's not even that big a con), it was that the restaurant where dinner was served was at a different building. It was only a 3-minute walk but on a freezing night with slushy ground from melting snow, I would have preferred dining in the same building. But the hotel offers a shuttle bus for wusses like me. ||The other thing I felt they could improve on was the food. It was the same spread for three days for the buffet dinner and breakfast. On the final day, we headed out to the small town and grabbed dinner. ||Also, there is no lunch at the resort in winter but they do have a shuttle bus that will take you to a lunch place and...

Read moreWe stayed at this hotel with our 7 year old child, whilst it's not walking distance to the main town you can get short cab there.||||Whilst the rooms and hotel itself is a little tired and the bathrooms really could do with a renovation everything functioned.||||There wasn't really anything for our child to do on an evening, however had there been other children with us it might have been better.||||I'm rating this high because the staff were helpful and friendly, the ski hire was right next to the hotel and the best value of all around the area and you can literally ski to your hotel front door. The ski resort on the door step of the hotel is terrific.||||Bizarrely you could book the ski passes to your room but not the ski hire. Ski hire had to be paid in cash and as with most of Myoko nearly everywhere only accepts cash.||||We liked this hotel as there were manly Japanese and very few international travellers so we really felt like we were in Japan.||||The food options for evening meals are huge and a good variety, breakfast was the same but regrettably there were no cereal options it really was focused on Japanese only. It would have been nice to have been able to have some cereals.||||If you enjoy been away from your own kind and mixing with the locals this is a great place. The staff tried their best to accommodate us despite really only one or two that could speak English.||||Don't expect luxury or Western breakfast or being able to walk into town but do expect good food choice in the evening, helpful staff and a terrific ski resort right on your door step. Oh don't forget the amazing snow this place offers.||||If you take kids, take board games or an iPad for...
