Excellent experience!!! Strongly recommend this place for a short stay. The madam みっちゃん(Micchan)who is known for her bubbly personality and amicable smile will make sure you feel at home, warm and cozy.
The highlight of the place is the food prepared by Micchan herself. For dinner, you get to eat seasonal 串焼き(food on stick)that has been slow cooked around the 囲炉裏(irori)aka fireplace in the old Japanese households. Above all, their 炊き込みご飯(seasoned rice)with wild mushrooms is heavenly. You can taste the love and care that Micchan puts in her cuisine.
It is a family owned hotel with natural hot spring literally in the middle of no where 20 minutes drive up the the mountain from Kinugawa Onsen station. Definitely an adventure getting there, but well worth an experience. If you are tired of staying in a generic hotel room, why not try get up close and personal bonding with the staffs (mostly Micchan and sometimes her grandsons) along with fellow guests?
Despite the hot springs and the heaters, the temperature easily drops down to sub zero during winter, so...
Read more😊: From the moment we arrived we were warmly welcomed by the hosts. Rooms traditional Japanese style with tea waiting for us to enjoy before dinner. Dinner itself was spectacular and despite being unable to provide vegetarian cuisine (2 guests prefer veg/pesc) the second night Micchan made a special effort to include more plant based things. Saying that both guests tried everything the night before and loved the deer! The other guests (all Japanese) were incredibly friendly. We enjoyed chatting with them and one lady helped us with how to cook on the first night and the second night another man came to give us some Nihonshu. We enjoyed sharing our morning coffee with other guests and taking our photo with them for Micchan's wall. The drive (whichever route) to the guesthouse was absolutely stunning and the fall leaves were out of this world. We also enjoyed both onsens. I thoroughly recommend staying at this fabulous guesthouse.. 😢: Nothing!! We...
Read more😊: I don't know where to start. It was a gret experience to stay at Micchan and her husbands Minshuku. Micchan is extremely friendly and helpful. She greeted us with some tea and made us very comfortable during our stay. We had great dinners and breakfasts with Japanese homemade food. She served her homemade Amazake. In the mornings we had coffee in her karaoke room and she shared stories of past times. It was really an amazing experience. Also the futon beds were very comfortable :) I would definitely want to come back and visit Micchan!. 😢: Everything was actually great. Just an information maybe that the guesthouse is not very close to Nikko, so if you have a car it is the best option to spend your evenings there, otherwise it can be...
