Ever seen a hotel that made you want to cry? I have and it's the Awashima hotel. Had 6 pages written but had to pare down bc of character limits 🙄
Honestly at the end of my trip I did cry! Partly because of the stressful phone locking issue I experienced on the last full day of my stay but mostly because of the immense care the hotel staff showered me with!
Free shuttle to the ferry waiting room. The ferry waiting room is in the same style as the hotel and it's so cute! With views of the sea and you can flip thru the Awashima book if you have a wait for the ferry. There is a "curfew" as the last ferry to the hotel is about 945pm but I didn't mind at all.
An attendant took my bags up to my room while I was given a tour and walked to my upgraded room by the manager, Ogawa. The room... Omg! THE ROOM!!! Simple, beautiful furnishing, stunning ocean and Mt Fuji views (when no cloud cover) and a secret alarm (in video) which I LOVED that also plays the classical music piped throughout the hotel which I left on for my entire stay it was so relaxing! The bathroom had a huge tub to soak and walk in shower combo. The toilet was a separate "closet" style which I love. The bed was very comfy but the pillows could've had more support. Other than that... I could have lived in that room forever!
Side note! I'd love to have a souvenir room key if they ever made them. They're so unique and beautiful!
The Breakfast terrace, dinner at the French and Japanese restaurants in the hotel are an extra fee you can add onto your hotel stay (drinks at the restaurants are an extra charge with the cost on the drink menu. Total to be settled at checkout). The food at the breakfast terrace was the same everyday but that is not a bad thing! They have such a variety you can have a little something different everyday or pick favs. I didn't feel forced to over-eat out of FOMO 😂 (fear of missing out). The Hawthorne juice was my favourite I NEED to find it here in the states! You also get a view of the courtyard, ocean, and mountains in the distance it literally feels like a scene from a movie.
The dinner restaurants have beautiful views! So I suggest trying to get an early-ish dinner (630pm/7pm or earlier if you want to see out). I ate EVERYTHING they brought out dietary restrictions be damned! 😭 (printed pre-fixe menu so you can "read along" which I also loved lol). My waiter at the French restaurant was such a showman! If he noticed I really liked the way he did something... He did it again! 😂 I loved that! My waitress at the Japanese was so sweet, patient, and accommodating! The language barrier made it difficult for us both but we both talk with our hands as well as words so that made it easier to me. I can tell she has a heart of gold just from having her wait on me.
There's an onsen, gift shop, spa, art+jewelry gallery. Beautiful! This entire hotel... The entire island rather! is full of "picture perfect" moments! And boy oh boy did I get a lot of amazing pictures!!! I also bought quite a bit from the gift shop and a few pieces from the jewelry gallery. I must've spent somewhere around $300🙈 I regret nothing lol!.... Wait no! I regret one thing! I forgot to get a copy of the Awashima hotel/ Awa Island picture book! I really wanted one of those so it's a must have for my next trip.
I walked the hotel grounds, around the island to see the frog house, aquarium where there's a cafe +shop + you can also catch a seal show! I also hiked up a path to the shrine ⛩️ which can be difficult depending on your fitness level but there is a vending machine at the entrance where you can get refreshments and benches at certain points where you can sit but if you need a break before you see a it's best to simply stop where you are and catch your breath. I think there's a difference in altitude as well so be mindful of that. Also penguins! Lol you can see penguins as well.
Ogawa, Miyashiro, Umehara, Inaba, Liao, Terasawa, and the rest of the Awashima staff who's names I didn't get.... Thank you so much for your...
Read moreTHE BED WAS SO HARD & the pillows kept slipping around. One of the worst nights of sleep I’ve ever had. HOWEVER ‼️ The Onsen on the ocean was really memorable, the staff was nice & the rooms was comfortable & was better than expected!
It was unfortunate that in rainy cloudy weather you can’t see Mt fuji & the restaurant was booked out. There are no restaurants on the island so we brought some food but it would’ve been much nicer being able to eat at the restaurant.
The island & hotel exterior is also quite rundown & the aquarium next door was DEPRESSING. Breakfast was included, the older ladies running the breakfast was really kind but the food was not memorable.
The unused bar was unfortunate because it’s really beautiful & the path to walk around island...
Read moreThe location was superb, and we had a delightful experience. Hotel served the delicious cuisine for dinner. The white fish starter (staff told me that the name is 'Houbou') and the tender beef as a main course were very tasty. Before going to sleep at night, I looked outside and saw the moonlight reflected in the sea. The view was so fantastic and beautiful that I couldn't help taking photos. In the morning we also enjoyed a beautiful view of Mt. Fuji and a walk around the island with feeling the pleasant sea breeze. The staff who looked after us at check-in, another staff who were kind to us in the restaurant and the staff who saw us off at check-out, all had warm smiles on their faces. We look forward to revisiting this location in the...
