I can’t thank enough for Okami and people who work at Shotokan to make our family time so special. (Okami is the title of the lady who is in charge at a Japanese style hotel called “ryokan.”) Rooms, views, meals, ambience, everything was absolutely wonderful. Especially their hospitality was beyond imagination. Another notable thing is that they can make amazing vegetarian meals (on request in advance), which doesn’t happen so often at ryokans since most of Japanese food uses seafood and/or fish broth.||||We stayed here one night back in August 2015 to celebrate our dad’s 77th birthday. Everything was even better than I could have imagined. I will always remember our amazing time at Shotokan for the rest of my life.||||ROOM: ||We were 4 families, 10 people including 3 kids. We booked 4 rooms so each family stayed at an own room.||- a corner Japanese style room (Tsuki)||- a Japanese style room with two beds and a bathtub looking over the bay (Hana/Umi)||- two regular Japanese style rooms (Michi/Iro)||||All rooms were spacious and beautiful, and each one had a great view of the bay. My partner and I enjoyed the in-room bath and massage.||||MEALS:||Their meals are absolutely BEAUTIFUL and DELICIOUS. Dinner and breakfast were served at a nice size of room only for our families, which was very nice. They also made incredible vegetarian meals for my partner. We all were absolutely happy...

Read moreOutstanding. We stayed one night in transit from Kyoto to Tokyo and it may have been the highlight of our trip. We tried our first ever public onsen the night before in Kyoto so we were very prepared for the rooftop onsen here. Except that once we arrived, only 5-7 of the 21 rooms were full, which was an amazing experience for us. We upgraded to the 5th floor suites with the in-suite private onsen, which was incredible. The suite had a bedroom (with spectacular views of the bay), a large closet, a dining room, a toilet room, and a separate bathroom (sinks, shower, private bath). The dinner and breakfast were included, and the dishes came out fresh and authentic. I tried foods I’ve never had before and it felt like the healthiest 6-8 courses I’ve ever had.
It rained non stop from midnight until we left and that made the experience even better. We got our view of Fuji when we arrived at 3p the day before but the rain while inside the hot springs in the public bath was an amazing feeling. There were indoor and outdoor baths on the rooftop. My wife and I stayed up there for hours in perfect solitude. What a peaceful pause in our hectic journey.
100% book if you can! Unsure how July 1 affects the crowd here because that’s the opening of Fuji for climbing. But even with 21 rooms full, it won’t be anything like staying in...
