Komagatake is one of my warmest memories of Nipponago. The hotel does have a shuttle bus that picks up guests at the bus stop when you make a reservation. I didn't ask the hotel to pick me up again because I thought it would be convenient to get off the bus. What I didn't expect was that when I got off the bus, an uncle with a flannel hat on his head and a round face waved at me with a smile. His face was red from the wind and his eyes were like curved moons, and his smile was so simple and honest. I can't describe how touched I was. In the cold wind, a warm current welled up in the tip of my heart, and even if I didn't have a reservation, the uncle would come to the station to pick up the guests at the time when the bus arrived.
The hotel is still like a fairy tale cottage. Here, the hotel with nine rooms should be considered a big hotel, and it is still hot and difficult to make a reservation. The hotel is very new, two floors in total, clean and dry. There are only four staff, one grandfather, two ladies and uncle. It is really amazing that four people can run such a hotel in such a well-organized way.
The front desk is manned by two ladies who are very patient and meticulous. We booked a large room, which was very spacious and well heated. The tatami mats are very clean, the mattresses in the room are neatly made every day, and the bathroom is separate from the wet and dry. There's no better way to enjoy the hot springs than by walking down a long wooden corridor and passing through several doors. What's even more amazing is the private onsen. I often go to the onsen in the early morning or at night, and I feel refreshed in the morning; at night it's even more romantic, looking up at the starry sky, with snow-covered mountains and trees as far as I can see, and the sound of the spring water murmuring in my ears, as if I'm the only person in the world. Such a warm experience made me feel the true meaning of one session, i.e. each encounter is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity Will, the uniqueness and irreducibility of each moment, to cherish the present. I don't know what, whenever I think of this hotel, I think of the moment the uncle...

Our room was spacious and comfy, our room faced a small stream which provided a nice background noise if you open the window. Dinner here was impressive and breakfast was ok. The onsen on site is nice and the water temperature is perfect. The bath are separated by gender and each side boasts an indoor and outdoor bath (the ladies side had a small wooden shelter). During our stay the gent's side outdoor bath was too cold, probably due to the rain. The hotel does charter a bus to bring all residence to another famous onsen area around here, known for their milky blue mixed bath. I personally liked the onsen within Komagatake better. The staff here is friendly and take the extra mile to explain everything in English. Bus is provided to pick up and drop off patrons from the nearest...

The place gave off the feeling of a traditional Japanese mansion that could appear in the movie The Handmaiden (chan-wook, park). The dim light of dawn and the snow that gently falls several times a day created a magical atmosphere for the outdoor baths, private baths, and communal bathhouse. Although the facilities are old, they are meticulously maintained, and the scent of wood along with the large glass windows offering views of the outside made the bathhouse interior feel truly enchanting.
A shuttle bus to Tsurunoyu Onsen arrives at the front of the accommodation every night at 8 PM. It takes 20 minutes to get there, 1 hour at the onsen (which is more than sufficient), and 20 minutes to return.
Meals are provided for both breakfast and dinner, and the dinner includes a variety of side dishes and main courses. The food was truly delicious, light, and served in generous portions, which left me more than satisfied.
On the first day, I checked in at 7:45 PM and left for Tsurunoyu Onsen at 8 PM. When I returned at 10 PM, a staff member was still waiting to prepare my dinner. I felt so sorry yet so grateful. The staff members were exceptionally kind.
During my stay, I visited other hot springs on day tours, but I think Komagatake was undoubtedly the best choice. The price, service, and facilities exceeded my expectations in every way. If you want to experience a romantic winter onsen, I strongly...
