Very unusual architecture. Very polite and attentive staff. Very nice room with a fantastic view over the river and town in the distance. Maximum use of natural light everywhere. Meals were typical Japanese country style with little imagination. Unfortunately, the main attraction, the Planetarium, is closed on Wednesday, the day we were there. Other than that one there is only kayaking in Summer to keep you occupied. The renowned " rail less bridges" can only be reached by foot or bicycle as there are no local taxis or buses. The nearest such bridge is 4km away. The onsen is nice but small as there are only 14 rooms in this Hotel. It is a very peaceful place if that is what you like and the room charge is below average. It is good value if you just want peace and quiet. I was the only foreigner there.

Hotel Seira Shimanto ホテル星羅四万十 is a stunning hotel with a minimalist industrial design that perfectly complements its serene surroundings. We opted for the full board and were treated to delicious meals for both dinner and breakfast. Dinner was a delightful surprise, featuring fresh bonito and ayu fish—both prepared to perfection and bursting with flavor. Breakfast was equally satisfying, rounding out a fantastic culinary experience. With its beautiful architecture, exceptional food, and warm hospitality, this hotel earns a well-deserved 5 stars. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the area!

Great location with beautiful views, dated rooms but a very modern reception, lounge and dining area and extremely helpful staff. Our room had tea making facilities and a fridge (only Japanese TV channels) and parking out the front was easy. The hotel offers different times and options for dinner and a traditional Japanese breakfast which may not be for everyone. There is also a supermarket about a 3 minute drive away, a kayak/canoe facility nearby if you wanted to be active and the hotel onsen was wonderful.

Perched on the hill overlooking the rive this is a contemporary style hotel that looks quite western. However beds are Japanese style futons on Takashimi mats.|Staff was very friendly greeting us and provided a proper indoor bike storage in the main reception area. The rooms are lovely and huge by Japanese standards and overlook the river valley, with a small outside balcony.|There is also washing machine dryer available near reception and an in-house Onsen. Whilst seemingly no-where near a convenience store there are vending machines including one dispensing beer hidden on the second floor.|Unfortunately breakfast was very Japanese and whilst presented very nicely I'm afraid I didn't appreciate the selection, including having to grill your own fish (bait size) on your personal griller.|A nice hotel apart from the fact I was suffering from Japanese breakfast overload by this...

I stayed at this property during a tour around the Shimanto region. The design of the property was very modern and with large picture windows in the dining area, enjoying the local scenery was a pleasure. The evening meal was delicious and hard to fault. The management had placed fresh flowers in the room, which was a nice touch and the rooms were clean. A few small details like lace table covers and floral quilted bed covers let the room down, the biggest disappointment for the rate charged for the room was the torn and worn furniture and having carpet on the floor in the room toilet. Overall this is an excellent Hotel, which I highly recommend and that I would stay at again. The management showed signs of wanting to get things right so I expect the little things will change. The food here was excellent and it is across the road from the...
