Hotel Tangram — Hotel in Shinano

My first impression upon arriving the resort was of the staff. Their customer services are top notch. They took care of us and made us feel very much in vacation mode. From the staff at the front desk, to the restaurant, we were surely greeted with friendly smiles. I love how you can just stay at the resort if preferred, as there were lots of activities available to us. We particularly enjoyed the gondola ride and hanging out at the view deck sipping drinks and eating ice cream served by the cafe located there. Please try the sled ride. It takes out the young spirit in you 😂. The lavender garden smells so nice even when it was not in bloom. The scenery around the resort when you walk around is just “woosahhhh” .. relieve your stress with the surrounding power of nature.

We have stayed at this hotel for the past three years and always had a great experience—until this year. Unfortunately, our visit on the evening of February 16 was marred by incredibly rude front desk staff.

Not only were they condescending to us as Americans, but we also witnessed them being dismissive toward Japanese-speaking guests. Their attitude was unprofessional, and there was a clear inconsistency in how we were treated compared to other guests. It felt like we were an inconvenience rather than valued customers.

We received amazing service by the staff on February 15th, but the night of the 16th was memorable for the wrong reasons. After years of glowing reviews, this experience left a sour taste, and we will seriously reconsider staying here again in the future. Management needs to address this behavior...

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Tangram in Nagano. Nestled in lush greenery, it’s a beautiful and scenic spot—perfect for a peaceful getaway, especially in spring. The surroundings were serene and refreshing, offering a truly relaxing experience. It’s also very family-friendly with plenty of fun activities for kids, which kept them happily engaged throughout our stay.

The only challenge we faced was with the food, as being vegetarian, the options were extremely limited. It would be great if the resort could consider offering a few more vegetarian-friendly choices in the future.

That said, the overall experience was lovely and we would definitely recommend it to families looking for a relaxing...
