The hotel is pretty near everywhere and they rent cars if you want to go farther away, and this was a very good point if you can drive in Japan. Pictures in the websites are waaaay to optimistic, and really do not reflect the true face of this place that really looked old. The pool was closed, and everything felt in decadence... I don’t know how to explain. But the worst was the food. The buffet is beyond awful, both dinner and breakfast. No taste at all, like they simply don’t care to cook. My Japanese wife had the same opinion about it. The room was ok, but not enough towels. If you stay one night you have nothing to use for the morning shower of the second day. Thank god I took two towels away from the onsen bath the night before. The ocean view room we stayed didn’t have an ocean view, but only the bay, which was of course secluded by hills. The staff seemed strict and they limited themselves to the typical lying smile of Japanese clerks. If I ever come to Shodoshima again I’ll probably go to...
Read moreThis is a very traditional Japanese style hotel. Room is beautiful but the service and management level is quite old style. I felt the courtesy but not warm welcome, ie not very helpful in my personal opinion. For example, I have to book the dinner restaurant myself using my poor Japanese. When I checked in they would like us to wait in the lobby until 3pm sharp. when we checked out even our ferry is 11:30am. They would like us to check out sharp and wait in the lobby for an hour instead of letting us have one hour late check out till 11am or we have to pay extra 3000Yen for the hour. Probably I have spoiled by quite high standaed stay in Naoshima and Teshima in our trip. Again I respect they follow their book strictly but just don’t think they meet...
Read moreThis resort hotel reminded me of the facilities that i saw from old Japanese movies, but in a good way. Cozy and Classic. Their service was very attentive and warm. It is very hard to experience this type of human touch at a hotel ever since the hotel culture changed all for efficiency. Upon arrival, the door staffs helped us to park safely using flash lights and unloaded our luggage. They already put our luggage in our room when we got in. It was a late check-in so, we rushed to dinner buffet and when we got back to our room, they already made our bed ( the Japanese traditional HUTON) for all 4 members of our family. I mean i believe it is a standard Japanese traditional resort service but still very impressive and...
