By far Hidaji was our favourite and we had the overall best experience!
Our stay at Kakurean Hidaji was nothing short of extraordinary. Nestled in a tranquil setting, this gem of a ryokan truly excels in three key areas: Service, Food, and Room.
Service: Impeccable and Thoughtful From the moment we started planning our visit, the service at Kakurean Hidaji stood out. The team was incredibly responsive and efficient in arranging our pick-up, communicating seamlessly via email to ensure everything was perfectly coordinated. Upon arrival, the warm hospitality continued, setting the tone for an unforgettable stay. Their impeccable attention to detail was evident in every interaction. Communication was seamless, thanks to their excellent English skills, ensuring that no detail or request was lost in translation. We were particularly impressed by the modern touch of having an iPad in our room, which allowed us to effortlessly check information, make requests, and explore the ryokan's offerings at our convenience.
Food: A Gastronomic Masterpiece The culinary experience at Kakurean Hidaji was a true highlight. Each meal was a harmonious blend of artistry and flavor, showcasing the finest seasonal ingredients. However, it was on our second night that we were completely blown away—the wagyu shabu-shabu was simply unforgettable. The slices of wagyu were the largest, most luxurious cuts we’ve ever encountered, practically melting in our mouths with every bite. Every dish reflected meticulous preparation and a deep respect for traditional Japanese cuisine, leaving us eagerly anticipating each course.
Room: Serene Comfort with Luxurious Touches Our room was a sanctuary of relaxation, combining traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern comforts. The in-room onsen bath was a dream, offering a private oasis where we could unwind and soak in the rejuvenating hot spring waters. Adding to the serene experience were the hinoki pillows, which provided not only comfort but also a subtle, soothing aroma that enhanced our rest. Every detail in the room was thoughtfully curated, creating a perfect harmony between luxury and tradition.

While English isn’t widely spoken and signage is mostly in the local language, Google Translate was a big help throughout our stay.
The food was an unforgettable experience—uniquely crafted and beautifully presented to take you on a creative culinary journey. Just a heads-up: the town doesn’t have any food convenience stores, so be sure to bring your own snacks if needed. The hotel does offer a small selection of snacks and drinks, though.
The semi-private onsen is a must-try—peaceful, relaxing, and you can stay in as long as you’d like. Our in-room shower and onsen were also absolutely magical.
I highly recommend this hotel! Stay at least two nights to really take in everything the area and the property have to offer—we wished we had stayed longer. We’ll definitely...
