Hotel Horizon — Hotel in Tokyo

Ogasawara island has been one of the top lists for our holiday destination for many years. I'm so pleased that we finally found a little gem on this beautiful remote island. Well worth after 25hrs boat trip from the capital city (1000km South East from Tokyo). ||This cozy hotel has rather simple decor and the facility is quite basic (no fancy gym or bar/ not facilitated for disable) yet the place is very clean and is well looked after. The hospitality of the staff is compared to none. Their polite service (very Japanese) is not pretentious but very warm and sincere. ||The beautiful sandy Oogiura beach is right in front of the hotel. The beach is pristine and water is crystal clear. You can see beautiful corals, colourful tropical fish, reef shark and ray, etc. The place is located about 6km away from the town centre, rather quiet area where no shops or cafes nearby but the hotel give you free shuttle service for the guests anytime during the day. They also allow the guests to use laundry facility (washing machines and tumble dryers) for free, which is quite useful for us, a family of four. ||The restaurant serves two meals a day (breakfast and dinner only). The foods are so delicious and we took our hats off to the chef!!! We enjoyed every single dish. They change the menu every day, i.e Italian foods for first night, local Japanese dinner for the second and today we were served the same menu that Japanese emperor and empress had it here twenty years ago when they visited the island. Tomorrow will be BBQ. You will never be bored with eating at this lovely hotel. The kitchen is closed during midday so you should either go down to the town centre for lunch or order packed lunch (@¥650) at the restaurant beforehand. I personally recommend to go to town centre as the lunchbox is very simple Japanese bento box. ||Overall, I can't praise enough this lovely hotel. It's really REALLY deep and the staff is mostly made up of bioluminescents. All they do all day is swim around with their mouths open. I ordered a margarita and all they did was stare at me for awhile and then off they swam.

Really, I think you'd do better at the Ritz Carlton or something. Our vacation was ruined when our child damned near exploded on the way to the surface. This will be the last vacation that my family and myself take to the deepest place on earth. Next year we're shooting for Mount...

【2024年12月】 12月中旬に３泊しました。 個別のチャーター船クルーズで無い限り、「おがさわら丸」の運行日程によって決まってしまうので、一航海当たり３泊になります。 ここは父島のホテルの中でもおそらく最上級の高級ホテルです。しかし、東京の高級ホテルとは異なり、一泊当たりの宿泊費には朝夕の２食分が含まれています。 立地はおがさわら丸の到着する「二見港」から約５キロ離れていて、街の喧騒から遠く離れている上に目の前が「扇浦」の海岸で、東京都の設置した海水浴客用の設備やトイレなどがあって海水浴もできるようになっています。 一方で、街から遠いためにふらっと飲みに出るようなことはできません。 ホテルの人に話を聞くと「街まで送り迎えしますよ」と言ってくれたのですが、なかなか気苦労になってしまいます。 以前はホテルにバーがあったらしいのですが、わたしとしてはバーがあればほかの宿泊客の人たちとも交流できて良かったなとは思いました。 こちらは高級ホテルですが、やはり朝夕の食事への力の入れようが普通ではありません。 写真を添付しますが、おそらくは料理長が相当こだわりをもって精魂込めて調理されているものと思えます。 しかしここは父島であるので、地元で採れない食材はすべて、「おがさわら丸」が運んでくるため、本土の何倍もの価格になっています。 献立を見るとどれも本土から来た人たちを満足させるために、多くの本土食材が使われていて、 ああこれは大変だなあ、と思いました。 また、ホテルの建物・設備はもう建ってから約30年が経過しており、写真ではなかなか分かりにくいものの老朽化は確実に進んでいます。 また、特筆すべきことは、このホテルにはエレベーターが無いということです。 ホテルは３階建で１階がロビー、事務所、厨房などの管理施設で2階、３階が客室です。 比較的低層の建物とはいえ、一流施設にはせめてエレベーターがあって「バリアフリー」対応するのが一般的です。 ところが、聞けば父島の建物でエレベーターがあるのは診療所（病院）だけとのことです。 これも小笠原の地理的な事情が関係しています。 エレベーターは年一度の法定点検が義務付けられており、これを実施する専門業者は父島にはいません。 父島は空港がなく、本土から技術員を派遣してもらうとなると、おがさわら丸の運行日程に合わせるので、往復６日間もかかってしまいます。 これにはなかなか対応する会社が存在せず、仮に無理に個別に契約すると莫大な費用が掛かってしまいます。 同じ理由で、老朽化しつつある建物を修理、改築、新築によって対応するためには本土の倍以上の費用が掛かってしまうとの話です。 このような事情はこの島のすべての人々にのしかかってくる大きなハンデであり、このホテルホライゾンのような素敵な雰囲気のホテルが是非とも長く続けてもらうために、行政、政治もこの現状に目を向け...
