I was having trouble to search for a suitable onsen hotel when I was trying to prepare the trip. This hotel wasn't appeared to be so good on the website or maybe my Japanese is just too bad to understand this is a good hotel in the region. ||||When we arrived, as the hotel wasn't located on the street side of the main road, we were puzzled and was preparing for the worst. It turned out that our worries were just ignorance. This onsen hotel was run in the traditional way but with relatively new decorations and the staffs are all young, humble and provide excellent services. One of the young lady staffs can even speaks OK English so we communicated well.||||I wasn't so sure about dinner and so did not booked one, but when I arrived I decided we must try their dinner as there is a lot of confidence to us when we had our first breakfast.||||Anyway, our room was on the 1st floor so so need to take some stairs to go up. Room is traditional Japanese style and was spacious, tidy, and come with a nice garden view.||||The male and female onsen will exchange in specific times, and the hourly rental onsen are free for use by hotel guests if there is no one renting it.||||This is an onsen hotel of great quality and not expensive. Read moreWe arrived at Yutagama Onsen after sunset. The entire town was so quiet that we could hear ourselves breathing. GPS kept telling us we arrived at the destination but there was no sign of it. We had been circling for 5 mins in narrow streets till we realised the ryokan’s entrance was tucked 15m away from the main road, carpark was 50m away. ||We got off and staff brought our bags and led the way. A warm reception area to check in and we were led to our room shortly. The double storey room has the sitting area on the entry level with the bedroom and a private onsen on the top floor. ||Our meals were served in a private room with a nice Japanese garden view. Generous portion of food and an extensive list of local Yamagata sake. ||There are two public baths to switch between genders. Both were spacious.
