Stayed one night in Hotel North Shiga for ski. Few minutes walk from Ski Lift.||Check in is from 3pm, so before if you would like to drop your luggage you need to use the lockers, which cost 400-500 yen every time.||Every rental costs money, ski wear/boards/gloves/lockers/yukatas..you name it. So you will spend 2000-3000 yen extra on top of your hotel room.||Be prepared the hotel is dated and they do not make the beds for you.||Most of the customers are college students who want a cheap stay.||There is a common Japanese bath located on 6th floor.||||Good thing about this hotel is that they serve good buffets at dinner (especially the crab legs). ||And if you do not mind hotel quality, staying here for ski and just sleep is not that bad.||They also offer shuttle bus to pick you up from iiyama station...

Read moreDespite the title, it is not exactly a bad hotel. It really depends on what you want. As a winter ski resort hotel, it has all the right supporting facilities. The ski lockers, onsen, changing room (for early arrivals and late leavers) and wifi are all in good shape. You can ski in, but not ski out. You need to walk about 3 minutes uphill to reach the nearest lift station. The western style room with two beds is very small. I must admit that the hotel had warned me about this beforehand. The Japanese style room is larger but I do not like sleeping on tatami. The breakfast is fine. Dinner is buffet and you can also add a hot pot.
