I had an extremely disappointing stay at Prince Shiga Kogen, and I feel obligated to share my experience so that others are aware before booking. For the price I paid, I expected much better service and facilities, but unfortunately, this hotel failed to deliver on almost every front.||||1. Lack of Basic Amenities and Services||No Daily Housekeeping: Housekeeping is only provided every two nights, which is unacceptable for the price charged. Daily housekeeping is a basic service I expect in any hotel, especially one at this price point. If this is not included, what exactly am I paying for?||No "Do Not Disturb" Sign: I had no way to indicate privacy. While I was in the bathroom, housekeeping repeatedly rang the doorbell despite me shouting "later" multiple times. The staff’s inability to understand English added to the frustration.||2. Poor Room Quality||The hotel room was extremely outdated and lacked proper maintenance:||Fogged Windows: The windows were not double-glazed, which caused fogging and wind seepage. This is especially unpleasant in a cold region like Shiga Kogen.||Poor Soundproofing: I could hear the chairlift operations outside and even noises from the room next door. This made it very difficult to relax.||Limited Wall Sockets: The room lacked enough electrical sockets, which is highly inconvenient in today’s era.||Tiny TV: The television was smaller than a 24-inch monitor, which is unacceptable for a modern hotel.||3. Overpriced and Poor Quality Food||The food quality was abysmal. The buffet was extremely small, offering half the variety of similar hotels in Hokkaido, despite being priced at 6,200 JPY, which is outrageous.||There are only two restaurants available, providing very limited dining options.||Even basic items like bottled water were overpriced at 400 JPY, compared to just 250 JPY in Hokkaido.||4. Unhelpful and Unprofessional Staff||The staff had poor English communication skills, which led to several misunderstandings and delays in service. For example, when I asked for shuttle bus information, they had no informational leaflets and instead printed something on the spot, making me wait unnecessarily.||When my ski bag, which I sent in advance, arrived late, the staff blamed me for not selecting a time slot for delivery. This kind of attitude is unacceptable.||5. Other Issues||The hotel is extremely old and poorly maintained, which is a stark contrast to how it is advertised.||The mini convenience store barely had any essentials.||6. Refund Issues||The terrible experience led me to check out early, but the hotel charged me the full amount, and I have yet to receive a refund. This adds insult to injury and reflects very poorly on the hotel’s management.||||Final Thoughts||I had high expectations for Prince Shiga Kogen, but it was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. The service, facilities, and food are far below the standard of other Prince Group hotels, and the pricing is completely unjustified. I strongly recommend avoiding this hotel unless significant improvements are...

Skied 99 Times and Still Don't Know About Ski-In/Ski-Out Hotels?

We has a pleasant stay at the Prince Hotel West! Our agent had made a mistake with the hotel booking and it led to the cancellation of the confirmation at very last minute. We only found it out when we have already arrived at the check in counter and it’s a headache as it’s during the peak ski season. Mr. Hamada Naoyuki from the hotel reception learnt our story and the price we were paying, gave our a generous offer on the rooms available by matching our original price. The room is upgraded, and our problem solved. We had enjoyed the room, the big bath, the Mountain view and food and bar. The hotel has all the facilities for ski, and the lift is just outside the door, it’s literally can ski in and out. The slopes are wide and a combination of green and blue, suitable for both beginners and experienced skiers. We will definitely come back for more skiing in coming winters.

Pros: Ski-in, ski-out, connected to free local shuttle route, efficient room storage for 4-person room, ski gear lockers, free washing machine & dryer use, free daily safe locker use, public ‘onsen’ bath, free wifi Cons: Lack of anything to do after sundown, no international TV channels, no hand soap in room toilet (needed to share with external hand basin soap), washing machine & dryers located in public bath areas so it is difficult to check which are free and usable, lack of buffet variety, limited store choice of anything, Very small rooms, public bath only consists of one large bath and not a variety of different temperatures or an outdoor bath (like Prince Hirafu), small shower cubicle, noisy fridge, insufficient space to store shoes & hotel slippers, unstable wifi, difficult to control room heating
